Hey everybody! I'm brand-y new to the forum. I've come here because I'm building a computer and need a little bit of feedback. This is my first ever computer that I'm building myself. My only problem is that the motherboard I was looking at was not compatible with my desired CPU! I'm in a weird spot where I need some advice on how to pick my motherboard. I'm open to any suggestions, but I was looking between these,  https://pcpartpicker.com/parts/motherboard/?compatible_with=intel-cpu-bx80648i75820k#m=8&s=28&f=2&qq=1&sort=a7&page=1  . So I will post my whole build so I can hopefully get some assistance.

Part List:

CPU: Intel i7-5820K Haswell-E 6-Core 3.3GHz LGA 2011-v3 140W BX80648I75820K

Case: Corsair Graphite Series CC-9011063-WW Black ATX Full Tower 780T Full Tower PC

RAM: 32gb [undetermined brand and speed because I don't know what motherboard]

CPU Cooling: CORSAIR Hydro Series H110 Extreme Performance Water/Liquid CPU Cooler. 280mm

Power Supply: CORSAIR RM Series RM850 850W ATX12V v2.31 and EPS 2.92 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Graphics Card: EVGA 04G-P4-3978-KR GeForce GTX 970 4GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 SLI Support FTW+ ACX 2.0 Video Card

Hard Drive: Corsair Neutron XT CSSD-N480GBXTB 2.5" 480GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Optical Drive: ASUS 24X DVD Burner

I'm open to any suggestions for a better suiting case, power supply, graphics card, etc... I Just want $2000 to be the max I'll spend because I'm still quite young.

Thank you,

              Connor

...Gaming, video editing, photo editing, CAD rendering, streaming, schoolwork, music. A lot a bit of everything. Also, you have me concerned now.

well its fine if you are doing things like that. you can get a better gaming ridge for the same price but it wont be as good in those other areas

A six core CPU for gaming is never a good choice. A high clock speed quad core has been the king for gaming for a while. Multiple cores are better for video editting, but a quad core will still do that well too. The additional cost of going for a 6 core over a 4 core isn't worth it if your primary focus is gaming.

It'll still kick ass in the other areas, but just not as much. If you do mostly gaming, go for a quad core.

The price/performance ratio

For one you should get an EVGA 550W GS and that will power your system just fine.

Second, swap the GTX 970 and 5820k for a 4690k and GTX 980.

You can get by on 16GB RAM no issues. Some video editing programs (Adobe) will take advantage of extra RAM but otherwise you won't likely be utilizing all that RAM ever.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

If you look at my terrible current PC on my profile, anything will be better. I probably do more gaming than editing. Honestly cheaper for better performance would be ideal. So you would suggest a better graphics card with a quad core. What mother board would you suggest if I went your route?

I would suggest something with all the features you need and has a color you like :) USB 3.1 and stuff like that are becoming more popular if that interests you.

Okay I'm looking at an Intel i7 4790k Quad Core.

Also, I'm not into overclocking, so what version of the gtx 980 should I get?

The cheapest one if you're not overclocking.

Also, for the 4790k, what motherboard did you pick out?

Asus Sabertooth Z87 ATX

OK, can you find a Z97 board? A Z87 may or may not require a BIOS update to get it working.
