impedance/wattage mismatching.

I have a set of 40watt 80hm impedance speakers. And want to use them with my pioneer SX434 receiver that has a built in 15watt amp. Will it be an issue? I am guessing not but I have already blown something up today and rather not do it again.

Is it bad that my dream setup only costs a few thousand not counting the obutto?

amp = higher power than speaker ---> you may blow the speakers

amp = lower power than speaker ---> volume may be too low, but nothing will be ruined

Also make sure you're reading RMS power

ignore anything that says peak

Is that 15W RMS or peak?

I do not know... this says 15watts per channel

Wow this amp is old enough to have legitimate ratings. That 15w is likely peak, but it's per channel. It's critical you find out how, and set the amp to 8 Ohms to match your speaker's impedance. Otherwise you don't have much to worry about. It should get loud for comfortable listening. I just wouldn't except this amp to provide enough juice for a party.
