my cousin is confused whether the octa 1.4Ghz is gonna do better than the 1.5Ghz Quad core i have
here are the phones we are mostly comparing between
Galaxy i9300 & Xperia Z Vs Archos Oxygen+

now i know Archos is not one of the high quality phones, and i don't really trust it, but that is according to the budget we have, and the options we have in egypt, let me know what u think, and let me know what u think of the quality

thanks in advance :)

Depends on the capabilities of the SoC itself and software optimization.

its different with phones tbh, id probably go for the octa. multitasking will be smoother.

my only problem is that it's Archos, i'm not sure it's a good quality phone that will give me the good performance as a Sony or a Samsung, altho i know Samsung's OS is not that good xD

hell no, archos suck, out of the other two id say the sony is the better choice (i had both)

The xperie is faster than both. There are architectural differences that go well beyond core count and frequency between those socs. Having an octa core may help in heavily multithreaded tasks, but let's be honest, you won't use any with a phone. 4 cores are plenty already. It's a bit like comparing a 4690k to an 8350, they are very close in multithreaded tasks, but in everything else the i5 wins decisively.

well it's the OS or ROM coming with the device, i suppose it should be

Looking at performance numbers though using benchmarking apps, you may not see a huge difference, particularly if the architecture is inferior and the benchmarking app only utilizes four cores at the most. At that point, only clock speed would be able to save it, but if all of the above are true and the two SoCs are clocked similarly, then the octa-core will fail. At the same time, despite Apple having dual cores in its phones, they are usually at the top of the chart due to higher IPC and greater software optimization.

4-6 is the sweetspot

I might be wrong, but I don't think there are any SoCs with 6 independent cores on the market; they are usually quad cores with 2 low power cores that turn on to save battery life.

when most call it a "octo core" it means that there are 2 SOCs on board. 1 is a high power chip while the other one is a low power chip to save battery.

At least this is what both samsung and qualcomm have done. If you think you will use all 8 cores, in that sense it is useless, but it does something to save battery.

If a Nexus 4 is in your budget I'd rather get that than the S3.

for one archos suck, everything they make is cheap and tatty, the samsung is only 720p and has less ram and the sony is waterproof, better camera, 1080p and a bigger battery.

can't say that u are wrong, except the MotoX in egypt is nowhere near an extra 100$ xD

OH SHOOT SORRY I completely didn't see that xD, sorry about that xD I have little to no knowledge on foreign currency void, but if some of these prices are legit you could get it for 1,500EGP which is 200 or so USD, I'm 95% sure its legit though xD

There are some Hexa-Core phones, LG makes some, I would imagine they would run on lower clock speeds to keep up the battery life

like this one for example http://www.lg.com/hk_en/mobile-phones/lg-H815T

the 808 has 2 high performance cores and 4 low power cores. They don't work together. It's only called a "hexacore" for marketing reasons, a bit like AMD says their apus have 12 processing cores (4 cpu cores, 8 gpu "cores").

Samsung Galaxy S6 with Octa-core Exynus 7422 and 3GB ram when multitasking still needs to restart heavy-duty games and apps, this happens to almost every Samsung phones (for example my Note 4 usually has only 500 ~ 700 MB free ram while having 3GB ram)

Multitasking depends not only on hardware but also software, and in this case, Samsung sucks due to fucking TouchWiz

#OT: I would prefer Quad-core, many Octa-core phones hardly ever push all of its cores to maximum (except when benchmarking - of course), some MediaTek octa-core phone actually use ALL OF ITS CORES even in standby mode or light apps/ gaming, which contributes to the battery life being so short
