Best cpu for 850$ gaming pc

Hello I would like to build my first gaming pc, but I am not sure if I should go intel or amd

i know that there are a lot of intel fanboys out there but I hope you try to be as objective as possible.

My build parts:

fx-8320                                                 135$

gigabyte ga-970a-ud3p                         85$

r9 290                                                   280$

coolermaster 700w psu                          70$

samsung ssd 120gb                               60$

Arctic freezer xtreme cpu cooler            30$

1 tb seagate                                           50$

silencio case 452                                    70$

hyperx fury 8gb ram                               50$

If you have a better build in the 800- 850$ price range please tell me also if you

have a better performing intel build but keep in mind that i would like to overclock the cpu.

Thanks :)

Welcome to the Forum.

1) Please use http://pcpartpicker.com

2) What's your location? What sort of dollars?

3) An fx8 chip will generally bottleneck an r9 290. You should go for an Intel chip if you want to use your 290 to its full potential.

Sig under construction.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/9KvKTW Here is something pretty close to your build, but a little over budget at $900. I would never recommend a AMD CPU if the budget is over $500.

There isn't much point in getting a K-series CPU if you're not getting a z87/z97 board in this case, so I'd go down to a 4460 or something.

No, you really want a z87/z97 board for overclocking.

Don't get an XFX card. They are notoriously poorly cooled and your temps and ears will suffer. Get one by Asus or Gigabyte and if possible, Sapphire. Just not XFX. Even the chinese "Colorful" should be better as they have more copper.

get it, Asus are fantastic. Get it. My asus is in a case with poor airflow (back to front 1 intake 2 exhaust) and even though I've done some dumb shit still stays under 70*C

I think that's a good idea because the 970 costs like 360$ almost 100$ more

but again i would like to over clock my cpu to get some experience and i can't do that without a k-series...

Yup. 970 is not worth it. 290 is quite a potent card and will serve you well and with the Asus overkill cooler, expect it to stay nice, cool and quiet while in the case.

I'm sure you over clock the gpu... and i would like to over clock the gpu and the cpu to gain extra performance... And to practice for

a better build in the future...

If you have any suggestions how i could get better performance please tell me :)

Overclock? No, I've not touched the clock speeds on my chip. It's more than enough for me even @ stock Asus clocks. Honestly, the heat you get by OCing is not worth imo.

In my country, believe me the heat or the energy consumption aren't going to bother me...

Just go with locked i5 if youre serious about gaming, theres no point in overclocking it, you wont gain much performance increase, if any at all, and with DX12 around the corner locked i5 should stay strong for few years to come in gaming.

I don't really care about energy consumption but I do care about the heat it outputs. A cool card is a happy card.

True story xD the fx 8320e doesn't output a lot of heat but it's performance compared to an i5 4690k isn't that great... but we are comparing a 130$ cpu with a 250$ so...

Actually, AMD's chips, while hotter, have better stock coolers for the most part. I seem to remember that a i7 4790 actually overheats in Far Cry 4 @ stock whereas I've not really seen any AMD chip overheat on the stock. Loud? hell yes. Overheating? No. My i5 4590 usually got to about 66*C (rated at 72*C operating max and 105*C max) on the stock cooler. My old Athlon II X2 250 - never go above 60*C on stock. I know it makes little sense to compare like that but I could easily push my old Athlon or lappy Phenom to the max without going near the max limits whereas the intel ones at max will generally heat up quite a bit and become lawn mowers (that sound still haunts my sleep).

I think in my case intel ist just to expensive... because going with a pentium g3258 doesn't make any sense on a 850$ build...
