Windows 10 Upgrade (License Key)

Go to solution Solved by Speedbird,

Hey LLT Forum,

I have a question about the Windows 10 upgrade. I could not find the answer on google, so decided to post it here.

When you upgrade from Windows 8.1 (or 7 for that matter) to Windows 10 you can perform a clean install but,

lets say my harddrive which the OS is installed on dies after a year, or 2, whatever, how can I reinstall Windows 10 then?

Do you get a license key so you can download an ISO and burn it, or create a USB Boot stick?

Thanks in Advance,

Vashan

Microsoft has stated that you will be able to do a clean install after you upgrade. I assume this means that they give you a product key. They have to, actually - Windows needs a product key to work, and they can't just make all Windows 7 and 8.1 keys work.

Yeah good question. Keen to know myself.

I have 4 license keys for Windows 8.1 for my different PCs. Will i get an option to upgrade those product keys so in the future i can fresh install W10. Or will i need to install 8.1 then upgrade to 10.

Thanks for all the quick responses.

Hopefully they won't force you to login with a Microsoft Account, I like my local account and seperate login for all the microsoft apps.
