if at 1080p go with 380

 

if 1440p go with 290

290 kicks it in the guts.

By a decent margin!

 

NOT overkill for 1080p titles at all, its actually perfect for it.

Depends how much your paying and what resolution/refresh rate. 1080p 60Hz a 380., 1080p 144Hz 390. Neither for 1440p.

i would get the 380 4gb as it does fine at 1080p right now and the 290 runs VERY HOT.. most of the time if at full load

I wouldn't say very hot at all... depends on luck of the draw...

 

Loaded up - My HD7950 is 66-68*c (280), my 290 is 71-73*c (Both stock)

it just has the potential to be hot especially in a cheap low airflow case and i just wouldn't recommend it to somebody as a beginner and i know he is

Depends on your case airflow, if its decent, the 290 will last you longer before needing to replace it.

 

IMO 290, if you can provide it with some airflow (Not hard to do with front fans)
