Hey guys, i'm planning on building my first PC but i thought it would be best to check everything first to see if i can do better. Thanks in advance to anyone who helps :)

1. Budget & Location
All up i'm happy to spend up to around the $2400 mark on it as i'm hoping to use it for about 5 years while upgrading occasionally

2. Aim

I used to be console only but i'm starting to get into PC gaming, specifically more graphic intensive games like the Witcher series, tomb raider etc. I'm also going to be doing school stuff on it as well like adobe after effects and some music editing software and of course general web browsing. I was going to overclock after doing more research so i would appreciate some advice on that front as well.

3. Monitors
I'm thinking of getting a single 1440p moderately priced monitor and i wasn't planning to go multiple monitors but i'm open to any suggestions.

4. Peripherals
I've already got a keyboard, mouse etc that i currently use with my laptop and i'm going to be buying Windows 8.1 OS for the PC build

5. Why are you upgrading?
I have had my HP envy for a while but i'm finally getting around to investing in a PC that i can put on my new desk and play some different games than i used to now that i have more time on my hands.

So i've got a friend that i'm going to be building my system with (separate systems) and he knows a lot more about computers than me so he helped me with some of the processes of choosing parts and how everything worked and stuff like that but i just thought id check some forums before i invested so much money into something.

This is what i have so far but i'm honestly open to changing anything even if it means sacrificing my prefered blue colour scheme.

Looks mostly alright, I may get a samsung EVO or a crucial BX100 for the SSD OCZ isn't known for its great SSDs. Also if you are going to play in 1440p it will be wiser to get the r9 390.

Get a Crucial or Samsung SSD

At 1440p I think the r9 390 will do a bit of a better job.

im sure you will be able to find windows cheaper than that bro, probably half the cost.

he would need a higher psu for the 390, i think the 970 is better personally.

change the psu, get a gold rated.

Get a 390 instead of 970.

remove the Intel EXPI9301CTBLK 10/100/1000 Mbps PCI-Express x1 Network Adapter

everzthing else looks fine.

Im changing to a 390 now as well as some of the other stuff now thanks to the suggestions but is a Gold rated PSU really necessary?

Not that much, a sliver or bronze will still do good. But make sure it is a good one not form the entry level CX.

not really. just need a good psu to last those 5 years. I dont memorise what psu has what components but in general the cx arent really known for its quality.

seasonic, antec, EVGA, XFX, certain Inwins, Superflower, BeQuiet are a safe buy.

Hey guys, i'm planning on building my first PC but i thought it would be best to check everything first to see if i can do better. Thanks in advance to anyone who helps :)

You can grab a Xeon if you would like (an i7 processor but no intergraded graphics but excels in stablity, also no overclocking)

You can grab a cheaper SSD, one from like .. Kingston or Samsung should be good.

Your case can be changed for something like ... a Fractal Case

You can find a better PSu like some EVGA

You dont really need high speed ram as it doesnt do too much.

I am a ... NVIDIA FANBOY!
