Hello there! A short while back I bought a PC and skimped out on the motherboard a bit (I will be upgrading it in the future) currently I have a Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3, now without the drivers (AND I MEAN ALL OF THEM) The PC fucks itself over, something to do with the northbridge, so without them the PC crashes often. Now, Gigabyte haven't actually developed any drivers for anything above Windows 7. Now I want to go to Windows 10 When it is released so does that mean I have to upgrade my motherboard or is there another way around it?

Most drivers for windows 8/8.1 normally work with windows 10 although there is the random windows 8/8.1 driver that does not work and there is no work around. We will have to wait and see if the various vendors put out windows 10 drivers or if Intel will put out generic windows 10 drivers.

You could use the chipset drivers from AMD. They should provide some. Or you can try Windows 8.1 or 7 drivers.

I successfully ran Windows 8 (Consumer preview) on a single-core 2003 era Celeron, without having any drivers whatsoever, or even the processor instruction set requirements that Microsoft stated on their site at the time.

You might get away with no drivers on Windows 10, but I'd consider you upgrade to a new mobo just incase. (Maybe make it an Intel one too ;))

I don't have enough money barely for a new Mobo let alone a new CPU as well. And I wont, I tried to do it on Windows 8 and 8.1 and BAM crash. So I had to go back to Win 7

Yes it does. there are windows8 drivers for the LAN, SATA and USB3 and windows 8.1 drivers for the USB3. This means that all the other drivers will work with windows 8/8.1.

That's really unfortunate. There's still a while until Windows 10 comes out, and it's free for a year afterwards anyway. You should have enough time to save up and get a new motherboard.

He speaks the truth, I just checked the manufacturer site. Another thing worth pointing out is, most manufacturers explicitly highlight compatibility for Windows 8 on the box, or better yet UEFI BIOS, and I couldn't see any obvious branding here http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4305#ov.

Jesus, Mary and Joseph.......you see the drop down box for "Choose Your OS" hit it and select Windows 8 and then tell me what you see.

There is nothing for Chipset, for Windows 8.1, does that mean I can just use the Windows 7 one or something?

Yes. That is how it works, if as in your case, the chipset driver, is only listed under windows7 and the vendor put out drivers for another OS and left out the chipset driver then they are saying that the previous driver will work of the other OS as well.

Oh right... Would make more sense to just put it in Windows 8 as well though

Yeah i agree with you there and i have stated this to more than 3 vendors and they all say the same..."this is how they deal with redundancy"....One of the reasons i prefer ASUS, they would have put a driver for all necessary parts of the MOBO even if it is the same version for another OS.
