Wait how is it you can afford a 500GB SSD but not more than an extra 4gb of ram?

For me personally since I use my laptop everywhere, on transportation and all that, I boot it from the hard drive then use a ramdisk for web cache, downloads etc so my hard drive doesn't suffer physical trauma from the rough environment.

But you have the option for an SSD so I'd choose that if I were you. The extra RAM would definitely benefit your video editing and rendering though.

Edit:

Since you have less RAM, I'd say you upgrade the RAM first, then get an SSD after. Reason is, if you upgrade to an SSD first, your computer may use the SSD as a paging file which will decrease the life of it.

Unless you are running short of memory (monitor it with windows task manager) upgrading RAM is useless, but upgrading to SSD will make your computer much faster and responsive

But then again, if it seems like you keep running short of RAM, then upgrade the RAM as SSDs wouldn't make your computer any better

My motherboard inly supports 8Gbs of ram

Why not a 256GB SSD and another 4GB Stick of ram?

I'm not sure if you are talking about a PC or a Notebook. If it's a PC you could add an 120GB SSD which is more than enough for the OS, Minecraft and all your primary software; and keep the 500GB HDD. In that case a small SSD is cheaper and you could afford the other 4GB of ram.

If it's a notebook I would choose the SSD since the performance of the OS and the software will be a lot better. And as you don't seem to play heavy games 4GB of ram can do.
