Hey everyone,

So here's my situation. I'm using a late 2013 MacBook Pro Retina with an i7 2.7 GHz, 16GB DDR3 1600 MHz RAM and an NVIDIA GeForge GT 650M 1GB. I got this one a while back and I've been using it ever since for web design work and it worked great. However, recently I started doing a lot of video editing and started using more of the Adobe CC suite and the notebook can't keep up anymore.

The CPU rarely goes below 60C and whenever I edit stuff in PremierePro it usually stays around 90C which freaks me out every time. The fans are at max then, around 5k RPM -- really loud as well. Not to mention the CPU thermal throttles.

Anyway, I'm planning to upgrade to a MacPro, but that's really expensive so it might take a while. In the meantime, I was planning to build a custom PC for gaming and light editing and streaming and I was wondering how that would compare to the MacBook Pro in terms of performance.

The PC I wanna build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/pPPPTW

So, I wanted to get your opinion and advice on how well the PC would work with editing compared to my MacBook Pro. I mean, I know it will be better, but by a large margin?

Also, if I'm going towards editing more with the PC, should I get an extra 16GB kit?

Your advice is highly appreciated, thank you :)

Adi

You don't need X99 to do light editing, Z97 should be enough, also getting a single 980 Ti would be better consider that games are getting shitter with SLI setup

.............an almost 2.5k rig is nothing to you? (I don't understand how rich people think lol) I don't understand your logic right now, for the same price if not lower, you can already build something with better performance than the Mac Pro. And you don't seem against building, so why do you want to get the Mac Pro in the first place?

Restating previous posts

1) you do not need X99 at all

2) get a 980TI instead of two 970, rule of thumb, unless you have a great deal on the cards, don't SLI unless its the top tier card if you already afford two from the get go.

Well, I wouldn't say 2.5K is nothing to me... it is expensive, but it's cheaper than the Mac Pro. I want a Mac Pro because I use MacOS for my daily work, not Windows. And I don't fancy a Hackintosh.

On the Windows machine I'll only be gaming and doing editing in Premiere Pro, nothing else.

The logic is this. I'm gonna get a gaming PC anyway. And eventually a Mac Pro. But until I get the Mac Pro, I do need something better to do editing on -- hence the PC and hence the slightly more editing-oriented build on the X99.

But, I am kinda newbie in terms of PC builds and such so after reading your comments I will change it up.

Thank you so far :)
