I was wondering. There are many z87 motherboards some of them cheap others very expensive but why?Lets take as example asus 6 extreme and msi mpower max.Why the price is lower for msi?It offers the same quality,oc power, stability and still asus is more expensive.Does asus gets something different that will improve the performance or compatibility with other components? Please explain as detailed you can this is something i really am interested.Thanks.

Ps:Yes they also have a maximum 6 hero but the point of my question is why some of x87 motherboards are so expensive.

Certain manufacturers use different quality of components (i.e. "military grade") and other boards offer certain special features. More USB 3.0 headers, better power delivery, better onboard audio, more SATA connectors, etc.

Brand value. Why is a Mercedes Maybach more expensive then a BMW Class 7, because of brand value. Asus simply thinks their brand is worth more and therefor they can charge more.

Features. That's what sets motherboards apart. What are you looking for in a motherboard. That's the only question when shopping. Will you SLI or Crossfire in the future? Do you want beast on board sound?

Motherboards come in all shapes and sizes and each offers it's own distinct set of features. Even if two competing brands of motherboard manufacturers offers the same feature set, their costs differ based on several determining factors which include but are not limited to:

- R&D costs

- Material use

- Brand value

- Supply & Demand

As for z87 specifically, here is a list of features that the z87 specification can support according to Intel: http://ark.intel.com/products/75013
