Can I RMA?

Lays

I've had a bad coil whine noise since I built my pc in like february, I always thought it was my graphics cards, first I had a titan I thought it was that, now my 780's had a higher pitch noise but its still there (usually happens if my pc is at load).

Anyways last night I decided to investigate, and since my 900D has the little pull down panel where the PSU is, I pulled it down and stuck my ear next to it. Turns out it's been my PSU the entire time, and not the cards.

PSU: corsair 1050:  Would corsair let me RMA it?  After I watercool I'm afraid that coil whine will probably be louder than everything else in my comp, so I want to replace it ASAP if I can.

I RMA'd my ax1200 due to coil whine. However I did it at the retailer where I bought it.

coil whine isn't a sign of anything being defective. However it's always annoying, and that's what I said to get a new one. (My ax1200 started coilwhining after a year though.)

Yeah, you might as well try. All they can do is say "no, sorry."

Corsair has been known to let you do that before (I did it with my AX1200 but the one I got back had horrible whine as well, turned out most AX1200's do). What you can do though is find the coil that's whining and stick some hot glue on it, that should fix your problem. This may include breaking your warranty to get the PSU open though.

Then again, if they expected that, why have customer service departments? No one can be perfect across thousands of products.

You could replace the fan with a Noctua NF-F12.

it is not the fan that makes the noise, it is the electromagnetic coils the vibrate when under load.

fans also have coil whine,do you know for a fact whether it's the psu coils or the fan in the psu?

The fan shouldn't be making any sounds,

Also, Corsair PSUs have a long history of coil whine, I don't think you'll have a great chance of RMA, but try it.

I doubt its the fan, I don't think fans make high pitch squealing noises lol

I read over what this guy posted, and listened to the video of his coil whine, and mine is literally 3 times higher pitched and way louder :s, hopefully they'll replace mine, I hope it doesn't take like a week or longer to get the new unit back, I start college CAD soon and it's online so I'll really need my PC :s

It buzzes even when the pc is off, and under load it SQUEALS high pitch like "EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE" noise lol

I am comfortable saying that Corsair would RMA it since PSU's do have a 7 year warranty on them and I handle quite a lot of RMA Corsair products a month.
