Firstly, on account that a friend has an Athlon X2 5200+ (roughly similar performance to my old Athlon II X2 250 which ran fine with a 6850) and I am wondering whether a 750 ti is going to be too much for that CPU to handle? His current GPU is an Nvidia GTX 7950 (yes, that old) and it's passively cooled so slightly lower clocks probably. So yeah, is it worth getting the 750 ti or should he wait for a full system upgrade (at least a year more).

Secondly, does GPU hang damage it in any way? Asking since my best of an asus cooler causes the 280 to hand towards the rear and I'm worried bout it. Sorry for the dumb question

GPU Hanging is totally normal, no need to worry. Also the 750ti would be ok for that CPU, but he can also go for a 270x aswell which would be better than the 750ti if it's within budget.

750 Ti would be alright, but will be bottlenecked for sure.

And GPU sag is normal

I am pretty sure the 270x will be bottlenecked but the 750 Ti? Really? His CPU is pretty decent (about 1800+ passmark score using both cores). I know it's not the top of the line but it should be enough to work with the 750 Ti.

I guess I could urge him to grab a 740 gt but that's just wasting money on "cheap junk" as linus put it. His budget is about 150-175 eu and on a sale the 750 ti can be picked up for about 125 eu allowing him to also get a decent PSU (his current one is as loud as a jet engine and is a no-name brand 600W)

Well it probably would bottleneck and also cause it to stutter.

My CPU doesn't really make my GPU bottleneck, but it does make it stutter.

The stuttering is the VRAM's fault from what I've read. If the GPU runs out of VRAM it swaps out to system memory (hence why when you max textures in Shadow of Mordor, the 970 stutters like a queue in a bank)

Dual core cpus are known to stutter a lot during modern games which are optimized for more than 4 threads.

Yet 512 Mb VRAM (assuming the sig is correct) is more likely to be the cause.

It's not that kind of stuttering, just my GPU and CPU being stuck at 100% all the time and sometimes GPU usage goes down significantly because the CPU can't handle.

Really? I've honestly not experienced that with my old CPU. I would get a decrease in FPS in XCOM Long War but that was when there were about 40-60 aliens on the map, something the game was never designed to have.

Anyhow, I think I might end up recommending a 260X. Checked the current sale prices and 750 ti is 150 eu, 750 and 260x are both 120 eu. With the saved money a Corsair CX500 or CX430W is probably the best option for the price. 50-60 eu is not a lot :/
