I will be refunding the asus 970 due to bad coil whine and concerns about vram.

A lot of people think pascal will come out in march-april next year due to nvidia's release patterns. I was debating If I should just refund my 970 and just get a cheaper card for like 8-12 months like a 750TI or a R9 370 or R9 360 and then upgrade to a pascal GPU. This would mean I would be able to spend 500euros on a pascal GPU. This is probably a stupid question because It obviously depends on how much I want to game at a higher FPS but yeah. Do you think there will be a big difference between these recent GPUs and pascal gpus? Im new to pc gaming so I am not sure how much of a difference each gpu architecture normally is. If you were in my situation what would you do? Also if I were to get a cheaper gpu until pascal comes out what gpu would you recommend?

EDIT: I will only be able to use the GPU from 7 JULY 2016 - October 5th, December 1st- January 5th and April - forever due to university. So basically I will only be using this GPU for 5-6 months before pascal comes out if I do get a cheaper GPU.

I would buy a card now and be happy with it.

A lot of you telling me to get one now, dont you think the pascal upgrade is good enough?

We can't tell you how Pascal is going to be - no one on this forum can foresee into the future.

True that was stupid of me D:

I don't think that people should get all bent out of shape with technology - something better will always come out. There's no denying it, but that doesn't mean you should be constantly waiting for the latest and greatest thing to come out. Otherwise, you'll never experience the great technology that exists now.

Why wait for Pascal when you can wait for the follow up to Fury X?

Thats true but the thing is I wont get anymore games until early next year, I have the witcher 3, cs go, LoL, SC2, MK X, and the cheaper cards can run most of these games at 60 fps and the witcher 3 at 30FPS which I can deal with. I will get higher demanding games like the new ghost recon, hitman, no mans sky and such next year so IDK. I guess maybe I should just get the 390 and be done with it

I'm one of the guys that started a similar topic as you and almost had the same mindset as you, "buy a cheap, lower end graphics card now, wait for pascal and spend big". Do you have a spare graphics card when your 970 is refunded?

In the end I decided to get a 980Ti and then just sell it when Pascal is out, or I may keep the 980Ti and SLI it or I'll just buy the 980Ti equivalent pascal card and put my "old" 980Ti in my home theatre PC.

Questions you should ask yourself mainly is:

  • Is selling the gpu u plan to get easy in your country?
  • Will you be playing AAA titles released this year? Are you ok with playing those AAA titles next year when Pascal is released?
  • 750ti, R9 370 and R9 360 are all lower tier GPUs. Are you ok with having a lower tier gpu + 500 euros for Pascal Or
  • Using your current gpu(i assume you have a spare after returning your 970) and potentially saving maybe 650-700 euros for a high end Pascal car

These were somewhat the question that went through in my mind before getting the 980Ti, maybe it'll help you.
