Yes, you will need a better cooler. The stock cooler is only intended for running stock settings. Nothing more.

Stock coolers are never good enough for overclocking more than a couple hundred mhz if your ambient temps are good enough. So yah, pick up a decent aftermarket cooler like the hyper 212 evo if your case can fit it

Will I need to go all out and get a H80i or will just a better fan work?

No, you can't just tack on another fan. The cooler itself is trash for overclocking. The Hyper 212 Evo is a decent choice for people on a budget who wish to do a little overclocking. Even if you're not on a budget, it's a great purchase.

You have a processor that benefits to no end from overclocking.

Buy a better cooler, like the aforementioned Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO or a Noctua NH-L12 (stock coolers are not OK with overclocking, especially when you go quite heavy with it), and follow Linus' guide for overclocking your processor here.

You will need a new heatsink. The stock heatsink is just an aluminum block which doesn't conduct heat very well. A cooler for overclocking will have copper heat pipes to get the heat away quickly. You don't need anything terribly expensive, a hyper 212 evo and similar coolers are around 30.00 and work great

I'm running a Pentium G3258 with stock cooler, and being a total noob to overclocking I was wondering if I need to get a better cooler so I don't fry the CPU.

Thanks for your help,

as long as the temps don't go over 80c you can of on the stock cooler. I ran an oced i5 on a stock cooler for a while and it was fine.
