yo yo, I decided to play some more minecraft and see If i could get back into the competitive scene. Sadly, my FPS is really bad for whatever reason. My old GTX 670 could get 500+ and my GTX 980 is getting under 150 with dips into the 30s. Any ideas? Frame Cap is turned off and I installed optifine, not sure what the deal is :(

Try running a high res texture pack. I get the same issue because the card just sits in a idle state because minecraft doesn't even give a load on the card. Also make sure thats set to use the card in Nvidia control panel.

yea, but I think I figured something out

the RAM usage goes up 1% at a time and slowly approaches 90%, and then when it gets there the game freezes for a second and then it goes back to like 5% ram usage, and then it slowly goes back up again...??

bad optimization somewhere maybe

Any mods installed?

tried reinstalling minecraft?

What is the cpu and gpu loads?

CPU usage is about 10%, but that's because my Xeon's dont give a fuck about anything really, even in CS:GO they never get close to 20%

GPU usage is about 35%-50%

I really think the ram has something to do with it, if you read the post above yours I have noticed some weird patterns with the ram usage

Allocate more ram? What's CPU usage like? Rendering new Terrain? Try without optifine? I'm getting 200+ with Shaders and 64x Textures...

I gave it 6GB, it keeps doing that. It's a strict pattern, it goes from 0% to 100% RAM usage in steps of 2% and then it will freeze when its around 90%, and then it will go back down to 5% ram usage. then it will slowly go up again

Have you tried disabling VSnyc, when i first got my 970 it would limit it to 60 FPS with lag spikes

Are you generating new Terrain at all?

I figured it out, it was the launch parameters. For whatever reason 1.8 has new launch parameters. I simply deleted all of them and now I'm not getting any more lag, it must've been some setting in there

He said in the original post that he has frame cap is off and vsync is a form of frame capping

Linus has made some videos talking about it alittle

I know it says g-sync on the video but just watch it he'll talk shortly about v-sync watch from 1:31
