Hey guys.  I've got a build for you to help me with.  My father plays Flight Simulator X to let off stress, but the PC he uses is an old crappy Dell and it plays the game with horrible framerates even with low settings and performance tweaks.  He asked me to build him something that could easily play this game (which is fairly old but still cpu heavy).  I haven't been following up on recent hardware tech much so I figured I would throw this out to you guys.  Any thoughts on parts for such a build?  The budget is up to $800 but I have been told this is flexible.  I am also partial to Intel builds but will look at all options.  Thanks.

Get a A10-6800k and it will work smoothly.

an APU would be ok if you planned to just run the game when you add very high end plugins it tends to struggle and uses a lot of RAM as well I know from a friend that tried to run it on an APU with loads of planes and plugins installed.

The aim with FSX is 30 FPS. It is a slow moving game so 30FPS is perfectly fine. Aiming for 60FPS is impossible in some scenarios.

It will be hard to build something that can handle the game with addons with your budget.

Try tweaking your config file first and see if you can get more frames. http://www.venetubo.com/fsx.html - That site helped me improve my FPS by a lot.

My old rig with i7 950 @ 4.4GHz with HT on aswell as a GTX 480 had problems with 30FPS when I had a lot of addons installed. (Just something to go by).

I'm not too worried about addons as he will not likely use them.  And 30fps is perfect for FSX especially for my father.

An APU will do fine in that case.

FX-6300 with Radeon 7850 ? best bang for your buck right there.

Yep. Here you go: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1lLzO

The ssd is not necessary but I'm sure your dad would appreciate the crap out of it.

It doesn't cost much more for a 7870 with 2GB of vram for better future proofing: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1lLAP

yaa ... nooooo

Not if you use some of the better plugins.

FSX can be VEEEEEEEERY demanding,

No it is not, thre is just FPS cap at 10.

My gtx 650 can run it 70 fps.
