so i am going to take a few pictures of my gpu and need to know a household surface that is safe to set the actual board on to take a picture of the cooler????

Wood? Linus has put a lot of GPUs on a wood.

Usually the box the GPU came in is a good place to start, or generally a cardboard surface, ply or other dry surface wood , you can use cloth, but they do carry the risk of holding static after you move it around or even evening the surface by rubbing your hands on it, so preferably the box is the ideal place, also glass is  a good surface but easily slipping..

Anything that doesn't conduct or produce static charge. No clothing (few special exceptions) or metal. Some plastics can be bad too. GPUs are much easier than CPU/socket. I've been leaving expansion cards on my bed while working inside case and they are still all working.
