860 vs R9 280

Go to solution Solved by Sakkura,

So I guess that means the 970m is pretty much around 960 levels of performance? Give or Take?

Pretty much. The 970M has some extra shaders etc. but runs at lower clocks (since it's a mobile card), so it roughly evens out with the desktop 960.

The 965M has the same specs as the desktop 960, but again at lower clocks, so it's that bit slower.

So a friend of mine has a lenovo y50-70 with a 860m and from what I've seen of it (besides the drivers totally glitching in Witcher 3 when they weren't updated) was interesting to say the least.
After we updated drivers, the 860m was getting probably a good 40 fps in Witcher 3 @ 1080p.

I myself get an almost solid 60fps

My question is, is the difference really 30%-40% or is that exclusively in one game? How do they compare to each other and to the closest newer combatant the 960m?

The 860m is about 10% slower than the 960m

A desktop 280 is a LOT more powerful, a 970m would be on par

750ti vs 280 pretty much.

I think the 750ti was actually getting 45fps in a benchmark I saw. But yeah, that's what it looks like.

if not a little better, the 980m is almost as fas as a desktop GTX 970

I think the 970m is actually only slightly behind the 280 (by about 3-5fps in benchmarks) - the same as the 960.

Anyhow, thanks for clearing it up everyone.
