Hi, im new here and i was wondering if anyone here could help me with my gaming pc ssd upgrade.

So i have a 500gb on my gaming pc and from watching linus i decided to get a 120GB Kingston HyperX 3K SSD from NCIX, i just plugged it into my Gygabite GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 Motherboard's 6gb/s slot and my 700w power supply.

Now, the only reason i got it really was to improve the speed of my pc but the main reason i got a 120GB was so i could use it to record gaming with fraps but i dont know what i have to do for my system to use the SSD instead of the HDD because it told me that it recognized the SSD but haven't done anything to it since. I don't know if i need to do some other steps or if it is really that easy.

Thank You

install fraps the the SSD, however to get the most of the SSD you are going to want to use it as your bootdrive, which means installing windows to it.

As Helltech mentions, for best performance, you really need to make the SSD your primary drive. Couple of options, install Windows on the SSD and re-install your apps. Nice clean install is always good. Just make the 500GB drive your secondary, storage drive.

Or - copy all your "user" data off your current drive to something external. Hopefully at that point you are using less then 120GB on the 500GB drive. Then you could image it, drop the image on the SSD - saves you from a complete re-install. Then make the 500GB your storage drive...

your doing it wrong, SSD have very limited write life cycle and using it as FRAPS drive would kill it.

you should have bought instead an Avermedia Live Gamer HD. what It does is it offloads the resource usage on your pc and it has dedicated h.264 decoder so the resulting file size is compressed on the fly and your PC wont lag while recording

Yeah, we're all just a bunch of idiots experiencing nothing more than the placebo effect.

thank you guys i just installed windows 7 into the ssd xD and noticing the improvements already.

Now ill keep my 500gb drive as my secondary storage as whaler said. ill look into the avermedia live gamer hd but is it really that short of a life? i woudnt mind if it lasted for a year or so. only reason i thought about using is for fraps is because linus had a video where he demonstrated how good it was to use hdd to fraps games.

thanks once again for your help
