So I've been tasked with looking for a desktop computer for my office's conference room.

Typically I'd be instructed to buy straight from Dell, but this time Dell won't work.

I'm looking for a very small, tiny, miniscule desktop BUT it must have the following:

  • Windows 7 (or 8) OS
  • DC/DVD Drive
  • USB 2.0 (3.0 would be great though)
  • Wired Ethernetport
  • HDMI, DisplayPort, OR VGA Out (Preferably not VGA)
  • Office Professional (Must come pre-installed or included w/ Product Key)
  • But most importantly, these things must come STOCK

My owner is always worse case scenario, so I'm ONLY able to modify a computer if it's broken AND out of warranty.

Additionally he does not want to purchase MS Office separately.  And the CD/DVD drive must be part of the main unit.

The desktop will be used in tangent with a 110" Television (give or take a few inches) and we're talking about simple use... Presentations and a movie here or there.  Nothing too intense in terms of needed power.

I've found one that fits the bill (ThinkCentre M93p Tiny Desktop), but I'd feel far better giving multiple options when I propose this to him.

Budget is basically $1,300 (before shipping and so on).

I would say maybe a Brix or a Nuc.. The DVD drive will be missing from stock, but can be added with a simple store bought USB DVD drive.

Tiny, fits the bill and should be in budget.

Office profesional bought seperately

Dell 3020 or 9020 Micro with external CD/DVD?

According to our Dell rep, both of these are currently out of stock and he's not expecting to get any for the next 2-5 weeks.

I'd like to get 3 units, and preferably within 2 weeks give or take a couple days.  That's why I'm forced to look outside of Dell at this point in time.

The NUC is nice, but is a no-go.

Though the NUC does offer a warranty, the owner doesn't want me opening the unit day 1 upon arrival.

He wants me to purchase it, open the box, plug things in, connect to server, and walk away.  Anything having to do with me inside the computer is a no-go.

His fear is I'll upgrade the computer, die the next day, and then no one will know how to fix the computer if anything were to happen.  Our 3rd-part IT company are very finicky and questionable, even with simple problems.
