Dual Socket Motherboards

I'm not the newest to computers, but I haven't heard of a dual socket motherboard before

.

I assume they're probably just for servers? Or can you use them for a gaming rig?

I don't know what they're used for, and what they're good at. Please educate me

They're workstation boards. Meant for use with programs that have HEAVY usage and utilization of multiple cores (stuff like rendering and animation)

They can be used for gaming, but you will not see any improvents over a single socket board. My wife uses a dual socket 1366 socket board for a workstation, because she needs the extra calculation power. 

 

But you are right. Most dual (or more) socket boards are used in servers

workstations and servers. There are also motherboards for 8 Xeons on one board ;)

this Aussie uses dual 1366 socket xenons for gaming lol so yeah if you dont want to invest on a car or an house

These dual socket MoBo:s are great to be used to animate pink panther and barbies.
