Whats wrong with FX, Intel Fanboy?

And to the OP, I'll make my changes. This'd be better, Dale. That old PSU you chose was the definition of "Fix It Again Tony". (if you don't get that, I will cry)

Was trying to save him as much as possible as he asked, but I know.

Um, poor utilization with current APIs?  I own more AMD processors[3 170u, 820, 9370] than I do intels[1 i5m].

Whatever. Just change the CX PSU and that STUPID EVGA 500W 80+ Regular PSU to a better one and I won't get angry.

Don't want to waste countless forum space by making a new thread but i'll just post here (Sorry OP dont mean to steal your thread. just borrow it lol)

anyone care to judge or give input on my build idea? going for gaming. like (crysis, bioshock infinite, skyrim modded) gaming. with ultra settings.

I tried doing my hw and research so this is the best i can come up with.. also this would be my first build ever. :o

Make it fit. Not everything with an EVGA or Corsair logo on it is good. In the words of the god "shilka", "Brand names mean nothing. Always look at the OEMs".

I know this, I have every single seasonic OEM PSU marked in favorites on PC parts picker, I'm just making sacrifices to fit it in budget.

Never settle! Always go for the best!

Seriously?

Everything is about settling. Hell, if I never settled, I would go for an i7-4790K and a GTX 980 Ti. I didn't because I'm not an idiot, I'd rather save some money. Seasonic may be one of the best, of which I have no doubt, but why does the OP (btw, what does OP mean? Never got that) need the absolute best? He should get the best components for his price bracket.

Hello @Rusty Shackleford, the reason @Sam Z Man is against an FX CPU is that they have poor single core performance. The latest AAA titles don't use many more than 4 cores/threads. To get similar performance from say, an FX-8350 to an i5-4690K, you have to overclock it MASSIVELY. Having personally gone from an FX-6300 to an i5-4690K (bit of a difference in price bracket, but bear with me), I saw DRAMATIC performance improvements at stocks speeds (and even with the FX overclocked a little). Not so much the maximum fps, but the stuttering and fps drops had pretty much vanished. As we speak, my i5-4690K is sitting at stock because it's such a strong performer sitting at stock.

Intel chips provide a generally richer gaming experience because they're much stronger per core.

If you go Intel, I'd get yourself a Pentium G3258 with a Z97 board or an i3 with an H81/97 board. They will be the best options at this price range. I wouldn't get a Z97 board with the intention of upgrading, LGA 1150 is more or less at the end of its upgrade life with the introduction of Skylake.

The GTX 960 is an excellent card, I was even able to get a respectable overclock on it with the reference PCB. Some people will argue that an AMD R9 380 is a better choice (btw, the AMD GPUs are very solid, I would consider them). The R9 380 will give generally better gaming performance, but I like personally like Nvidia for their far superior power consumption.

I wouldn't really use the low end Corsair PSUs. They aren't rated very well. Get something from Cooler Master, Seasonic, XFX, EVGA etc etc, for a solid, lower end PSU. I've got an EVGA 650GS which is a very well rated power supply. Just make sure you read up on power supply reviews from sites like JonnyGuru or HardOCP (my personal choice), they give a comprehensive break down of power supplies and test them thoroughly. Remember though, if there's any part of your build to not skimp on, it's the power supply. This is THE most important component in your system. It needs to provide clean power, and a cheap low quality one can cause a reduction in a component's life span, its premature death or even be a fire hazard.

But most of all, have fun building, and welcome to the community. :)

so i have been looking around a bit more and looking at your advice an i understand it would be better to go with an intel processor but at my price range i dont see that as a viable option mainly because if i went with intel i would have to get a pentium which i dont want to do because games are starting to utilize more core and for new release the pentium main not be able to handle them on 2 cores that being said i have looked around a bit more and have found a great deal on a much better fx processor this is what the rig looks like now http://pcpartpicker.com/p/h78qMp the price for the processor and mobo in this rig is incorrect because i am getting them in a bundle from microcenter found here http://www.microcenter.com/site/products/amd_bundles.aspx keep in mind i was able to add windows 8 to this build opposed to buying it later

DX12 and support for more cores will not make the FX CPU's suddenly amazing. Even with current games that support more than 4 threads the FX CPU still lags behind severely.

Same price, massive performance gains.

If you get a i3 it will run new games great because it has 4 threads, the pentiums and celerons are the only ones that can't run games because they don't have hyperthreading. A hyperthread dual core is amazing for gameing.

You do know a copy of windows only costs 20$ right, because of that you can afford a i5.
