First off, money shouldn't be too much of an issue for me, but I wouldn't want to waste money buying components that I have no use for.

I'm probably getting an HTC Vive VR headset once it comes out, but also want a 144Hz G-sync or FreeSync monitor to play FPS games on.

As of right now I'm running a MSI 780 (that wont ever be overclocked), and want to know what graphics card I should get. Does anyone know whether the Vive runs crap on AMD or Nvidia for example? Any idea how demanding it is, do I need a 980 or a 980Ti at full 90fps? Also, for the people with experience, is there a noticeable difference between G-Sync and FreeSync? If they run the same I wouldn't care at all whether im on the red or green team, but if I hear late November that the Vive isn't supporting AMD, g-sync' d be my choice.

90 FPS? I'd go for a 980Ti, 980 SLI or Fury X Crossfire (Probably out of your budget)

Why won't you overclock your 780?

980ti, fury x, or titan x. No cheap options here unfortunately. that's a high-res screen at a high refresh rate, pretty tough to run with about 90 fps at a constant rate. With VR you need to keep the screen at a constant fps, drops in it, and sudden changes of fps can make you really, really motion sick. Take it from my experiences, playing a game that suddenly drops from 60 fps to 15 fps when you look down off a bridge isn't fun with a vr headset. It makes you horribly sick, disorientated, and scared to wear the damn thing again,

I wouldn't call it a ''high-res'' screen.. It' s only 2160x1200, 70% of Quad-HD, which the monitor would have, which also runs at a higher framerate. (Also its valve behind this headset, theyre very good at optimising content and hardware, it shouldn't be too much of a problem).

This still doesn't answer the red vs green question though.
