Today my pc was folding when the internet stopped working. The Ethernet connection went to unidentified network, no internet connection. after further testing I founld that the problem was an invalid IP address. I plugged the cable into my laptop and it worked fine. any suggestions/fixes as I need to get this pc folding again.

if it just suddenly died like that

that doesn't sound good

might have burnt out the motherboards ethernet doing the folding

try this

burn a linux bootable cd or usb...and boot from it

see if the ethernet works that way

if it doesn't you might have burnt it out

if it does work...then you might just need to check a few of your network settings

and maybe the router/modem

If you need remote help fixing something on your computer

I can help over Teamviewer if you wish

just msg me on my profile

I have used the same cable with my laptop (just then to test) and it works fine...

im booting a copy of windows 7 i have on a hard drive an ill see if that works...

I cant see that folding would have burnt it as that uses very little internet.

how?

techguru posted it but google is your friend too.

Tried a restart?

Have had it happen that it wouldn't renew the ip till I restarted.

Right-click and troubleshoot problems should also do it as it re-sets the network adapter.

Just tred cmd release and got this:

Possibly a corrupted driver, bad update, some sort of spy / malware / virus.. Or your nic died, cable is bad or port on the router died..

Post up the dump from the blue screen, that'll help determine what caused it.

:\ seems rather unnecessary, if the hardware isn't entirely broken then there's no need to get an entire other motherboard.

I have come to the conclusion that the onboard lan is fried... and I don't have an ethernet card.

What have you actually done to determine that? Did you boot a live CD as suggested? Rolled back/updated drivers? Have you checked the BIOS settings for the onboard nic? Did you determine what caused that BSOD you mentioned?

So far you haven't really given us anything to go off to help you, you just posted the issue and that you basically tried nothing to diagnose it and just deemed that the onboard was dead, which you could have done without making a post.

I am now trying it from a windows 8.1 usb... I have been having this error: Service_Handle_Exception. I believe that my hard drive is corrupting to I am going to install 8.1 on one of my other hdds. hopefully that will fix it.
