Hi, maybe someone can help me with following question:

I have a pair of studio monitors (XLR-connection) and the sennheiser rs 185, which only support 1 x RCA stereo, 1 x optical digital.

I want to connect both to an audio dac - my first look was the asus essence one... but i have one problem: If i connect the monitors and the headphones (RCA) to the DAC i can not switch between the two devices  - so the monitors would always play the sound when i would use the headphones - is this right??? If yes - what kind of DAC would you recomend for my needs?

A soultion for the ASUS essence would be a rca to 3.5mm adapter so that i could plug in the headphones in the front - but then i don´t know if i would loose a lot of sound-quality.

Any help / recommendation  is appreciated :-)

We tend to steer people away from ridiculous and expensive items like the Essence One... buuuuuuttt if you need a single unit with balanced outputs for studio monitors, it probably is your cheapest option.

A 3.5mm to RCA cable shouldn't damage any "quality" especially for those headphones.

Oooooooor...get a Scarlet 2i2.

Seriously. The headphone and balanced out even have independent volume control. Getting an Essence One would be asinine.
