SSD RAID 0 - Please Help!

okay so I got a new SSD (the exact same kind as the one I already had - Samsung 850 EVO 250GB) and I have a Gigabyte motherboard and I just cant figure out how to set up a Raid 0... there's one option under Home>standard called SATA mode selection - with the options IDE, AHCI, and RAID. so i turned it to raid now i'm not sure what else to do. I have two SSDs, one HDD, and an optical drive as well as an ISO bootable USB to set up my OS once im ready. halp.

 

yes im aware all of the data on the first SSD will be deleted, I backed up things on my HDD.

You need to set the mode to RAID. Then when booting, hold Ctrl + I (i). That should get you into the RAID setup.

 

You can then select the RAID mode (Stripe) and add the drives you want. 

 

EDIT: It may be slightly different for your motherboard. (Maybe Ctrl + F for example). Look for any messages when booting, saying pres "xxxxx" to enter RAID/Drive setup.

I also have 2 850 Evo's (250GB) which I too set up in raid 0 once I got the 2nd, but I noticed literally no benefit in having it in raid 0, sure it was nice seeing the benchmarks being better, but boot time, and load times on applications don't actually benefit nearly as much as you would hope, if you haven't already go read a couple articles on it and look it up some more I didn't really take them into consideration before I set my SSDs up in raid 0, but after actually doing it I left it for a while and when I installed my new GPU I decided to revert them back to single drives no raid and I still haven't noticed any kind of difference in any form yet! 

 

So for me raid 0 just decreased reliability and gave no beneficial speed increases, although I don't know your use case, maybe you will benefit from it more than I did.

I dont expect much extra performance, i just needed the extra storage space and it was on sale, i didnt want to pay for a 500 GB version

Ohh okay that's cool then, I was the same, my original 250GB filled up pretty quick with the OS and a couple new games so needed another one
