Hello everyone, this is my first post in this wonderful forums and I was just wondering about few things.

I was thinking about buying a new graphics card since I have a really old one (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560) and was wondering which one of the new graphics cards are good and cheap at the same time, I was thinking about GeForce GTX 970 but I can't seem to know the difference between all the types it's kinda overwhelming for me (for example this link) and was hoping for some guidance from you guys :)

Also wondering if I should upgrade my graphics card or just buy a new processor since I have (Intel Core i7 2600 @ 3.40GHz, which I didn't overclock and was thinking about it after I buy a liquid cooling).

I can only do either of them for obvious reasons :D

Thanks for help in advance!

your CPU is fine.

for those, its the same chip but different coolers. they may vary slightly in clock rate, but 90% of it is the aesthetics you want. a quick google will usually help you find the quietest one.

the more expesnive ones just tend to run a TAD bit faster out of the box, but not 50$ worth.

The one you linked is from a generally well regarded brand. All the different coolers from different known, reputable brands (MSI, ASUS, Gigabyte, EVGA, am I missing something?) don't really differ too much apart from Customer Service.

The EVGA is a good one :)

About your processor, you have that 2600k now? Even though it is a few generations 'behind', it still keeps up very well with the rest, so there is not really a reason to upgrade that.

Well, sorry to dissapoint you. But only the ####K versions of Intel can be overclocked, and that again only with the right chipset.

For the rest, what games are you going to be playing? And do you prefer AMD or Nvidia?

Basic guide to CPU's!

If I said I were 14, you would call me a kid. If I say 70, you’ll entitle me too old. If I say 20 you say I’m inexperienced and if I say 40 than I'm too boring.

As others have said, your CPU is still pretty good.  With good cooling, you can overclock those fairly well to get even better performance out of it.  With a GTX 970 or similar GPU, your CPU shouldn't be a bottleneck, especially with some overclocking.

As others have said, the different brands are mainly for custom cooling, and sometimes a custom designed circuit board which can give better GPU overclocking potential.  You generally pay a premium for these, and whether it's worth it depends on the price.

In terms of performance, you may also want to consider the new AMD cards, the r9 390 is comparable and sometimes better than the 970.  Definitely look around for the best deal of either the 970 or 390.  Both are great.

Thank you all for the fast responses!

Someone of you asked which I prefer, I prefer Nvidia.

And I'm trying to play all the new games such as The Witcher 3, GTA .. etc etc

Also, I'm little confused now, can I overclock my cpu now or not? Because some said I can't since its not ####K Model and some said I can, how can I know? Which parts should I also have in order to overclock it with ease.

Oh and also, what kind of Power Supply I suppose to have to make everything run smoothly?

Thanks again!

FYI: we don't get notifications of your reply if you don't quote or use @[MemberName], I came across your reply by coincidence :P

If you play at 1080p, I would recommend the GTX 970 (MSI for all round, Gigabyte for overclocking and multiple Displayport, Asus for extra silence and low power consumption and EVGA for customer service and multiple Displayport (only some models).

If you play 1440p or higher, I would recommend a GTX 980 Ti (980 is not worth it).

This is, if you plan on going on higher settings.

For the CPU, you  can only do unofficial overclocks on it, but I wouldn't recommend it.

You indeed need ####K to overclock in normal ways, that combined with the right chipset on the motherboard.

For Power Supply, you would need one with a high enough wattages and enough connectors (6 pins and 6+2/8 pins).
