Hello everyone,

Simple, Clean, Silent is what I'm striving for. This will be my first build ever and I really need advice on...well pretty much everything, thanks in advance   :)

My budget is roughly 2000$ (CAD) including all accessories such as keyboards, monitors, etc.

Uses: Video editing (nothing fancy), Music creation (Cubase and such), Programming, Light gaming

What I have in mind right now is a VERY rough idea of the different components, again since I'm entirely new to this. ALL suggestions are very much appreciated   :D

          CPU: Intel 4770k

Motherboard: MSI Mpower LGA1150 or ASRock z87 Extreme4 (for the price and color scheme)

Graphic Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 760 SuperClocked w/ ACX Cooling? (edit)

Power Supply: XFX Pro 750W Black Edition

          Memory: G.SKILL Sniper Series 2x8GB

Storage: Interested to see how the Samsung EVO will turn out to be but for now some kind of SSD for a boot drive and Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200RPM for mass storage

Case: Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 (edit)

          CPU Cooler: Swiftech H220

          Fans: Scythe Gentle Typhoons

Keyboard: Ducky or DAS (brown switches)

          Monitors: Asus VE248H? (edit)

          Speakers: ?

Sound Card: Asus Xonar STX (edit)

> I currently have a pair of audio-technica ATH-M50

I would potentially consider raising my budget but for now it is as it is. The overall color scheme would be dark/black/grey, etc. with some touches of another color such as the yellow accents on the Mpower. I will be sleeving my cables, however I do not include those fees into the budget, suggestions on those are very welcomed as well   :D

THANK YOU   :)

If you are truly going for video editing i recommend an IPS panel. Mechanical Keyboards are a MUST. Mice? SteelSeries Sensei or Razer Naga or Deathadder ive heard are great choices.

I'd say:

Seasonic M12II 520 Watt since your current PSU is overkill

Dell 24 or 27" IPS panel

ASUS Xonar STX/ST sound card.

I've been meaning to go IPS  :) However at that price aren't I better off with something like a PB238Q from Asus? I'm not looking specifically for a mouse right now but I'll keep that in mind!

Is a 520W power supply enough for future upgrades in say 4 years? Since the price difference is about 30-40$ I'll be willing to pay more just in case I add more power hungry components in the future. I've been thinking of the Xonar STX but I'm not sure if it'll fit in my budget. I'll certainly look more into it.

Up the gpu and get a asus ve248h monitor. Sound card, get the best asus one for you budget.

The VE248H does look really nice! Do you happen to know how are the viewing angles for it?

I've thought of it however I've heard Slick say a few times how the bandwidth would affect performance of VM's and programming related stuff which is why i went for an 1866 kit instead of a 1600, correct me if I'm totally wrong though ahaha  :P They do look amazing though!

If you don't like the door on the R4, then the arc midi R2 might be the case for you? As for the fans maybe you should consider the noiseblocker e-loop's.

Yes, I've been looking into the arc midi R2 just today! Beautiful case, not as quiet as the R4 but I'll try to make up for it with other components. I've never heard of the noiseblocker fans, they do seem interesting; I'll take a closer look at them, thanks for the suggestion!  :)

Just FYI, all-in-one cpu liquid-cooling loops aren't very silent when compared to high-end air coolers.  The fans have to spin faster to get the air through the radiator, whereas the air coolers can spin slower since the fins are spaced further apart.  I don't know how well the Define R4 can block that noise but that's been my experience.

I've actually never thought of that, thanks! I'll be looking more into it, any suggestions perhaps?

I've probably got a few suggestions to make but before that, I've got a question. What video editing program(s) do you use?

I'm currently using Sony Vegas Pro 10; it's quite capable of doing what I need to do. Never really took a close look at Premiere but maybe I should..

Recommendations: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/1ngdk

Crossfire ready.

You might want to think about dropping the H220 for a cheaper cooler if you aren't too keen on getting high overclocks. The price/performance ratio tends to drop off for overclocking the instant you get an aftermarket cooler. This is not always the case but it applies for your scenario.

This looks great, thanks! I might look into more motherboards since the brown pcb on asrock's extreme z87 is bothering me more than it should..I'm also not quite fond of AMD since the frame rating issues but I'll definitely keep it in mind. Aside from that, it looks pretty good  :) thanks again

Well AMD's new 13.8 drivers came out several hours ago that have made things better.
