Help with storage!

Hello, i recently purchased the parts to build my dad a computer for his new office and we ran into an issue.

he wants to back up all of his files, find his windows 8 key on the os,  deactivate it and reinstall it on his new hard drive. so how would i go about doing it?

 

heres the steps

 

1. Back up data (i have a 16 gb usb if thats useful)

2. find windows 8 key

3. deactivate windows 8 on hard drive

4. install on new hdd.

did you buy an OEM version of windows? because OEM versions of windows do not allow swapping between motherboards

You can call and get them to allow you to swap mobos once or twice for an OEM key.

I don't have any personal experience with doing it but that's what I've heard and read.

@mikat: Did it by myself, worked fine, from a crappy MS-7800 OEM-Board to a 990XA-UD3, I changed CPU, MB, GPU, Ram, HDD and added a pretty decent sound card...

idk if its an oem key but i have done reinstalls of oem keys before and it always worked
