So I was just about to do some sound testing on my machine with a crude iPhone app which tells me the dB level. When I started up Unigine Valley and took the side panel off, I started hearing an odd buzzing noise. I turned all of the fans off but the buzzing was still there. When I Alt+Tab'd out of the program, the buzzing stopped. During the black frames between scenes in Valley, the buzzing also stopped. Under intensive graphical load, the system appears to buzz. I think it might be my graphics card, but I'm not entirely sure.

Anybody have an idea?

This is called coil whine. it is perfectly normal. running a very intensive application for three days can fix it. If you want to, blow a desk fan into the card with its fans maxed and run folding@home for a couple days.

It's likely coil whine which usually occurs under significant loads, but sometimes it can happen during certain rendering scenes or workloads(Example: Transferring files over a network could induce coil whine in some systems).

Likely coilwhine, as stated before. A normal occurrence when the gpu is under load, or outputting very high framerates like 500+ fps, but I wish it wasent...

It can be better in some cards than others, and once you have it, nothing shy of changing the PSU will change it...

From what I've read, coil whine is a high pitched whine. This is definitely not a high pitched whine, it's a buzz.

It can be different frequencies. It is almost certainly coil whine, but it... COULD be the PSU with a poor voltage regulation.

Coil whine can come in all forms, including buzzing. It doesn't have to be high pitched, but that is the general tendency.

Don't know if it happens all that often to EVGA cards, but I use an EVGA GTX 970 SSC. My PSU is also an EVGA 650GS.

Is there a video on this? It seems very bizarre.

I meant the fix, running an intensive application for 3 days straight.

Has anyone tried this in an attempt to stop coil whine?

Coilwhine varies. For me it is also more of a low pitched buzz.

The high pitched noise is more to do with the very high framerates, and the lower pitched buzz tends to occur when you are running at reasonable frequencies, but under a heavy load

I personally havent tried, but I have used the card for quite some time now and the buzz hasent changed, and 3 days seems like an oddly specific point...

I have fixed/reduced coil whine running f@h for 3 days. I have also suggested it to someone else and it worked for them.

Awesome!

I download F@H yesterday and have been folding all through the night. :)
