Is a nas build possible in a 150-250$ budget? No hard drive would be ok(I have external).

Desktop 1: CPU: Intel Core i7 4770  GPU: Nvidia Geforce GTX 960 Ram: Crucial DDR3 2x8GB 1600 MHz  Storage: Samsung 850 Evo 250GB and Segate 1TB Hard drive  Desktop 2: CPU: Intel Pentium G3258  GPU: AMD R7 250  Ram: Corsair Vengance DRR3 2x8GB 1600 MHz  Mobo: MSI H81M-E33  PSU: Corsair CX430M  Case: Rosewill MicroAtx Mini Tower

Will this NAS be on 24/7? If so, you'd be better off picking up WD Red drives because they're designed to run in a server environment.

Will this NAS be on 24/7? If so, you'd be better off picking up WD Red drives because they're designed to run in a server environment.

This is for home and not any server environment.

Yes, but is the system going to be running 24/7. Server and server-like machines tend to run 24/7.

Typically a NAS would have hard drives as its function would be to store and serve data. If you just want it to serve with an external connected to the NAS, i huess that would be doable.

 

HOWEVER, i would highly recommend you think about what you want to do with it and plan accordingly.
