New GPU

I'm thinking of getting a new GPU and I'm leaning towards this 

MSI Radeon R9 390 Gaming 8GB Twin Frozr V

I'm upgrading from a EVGA GTX 650ti 2gb, should I stick with EVGA or go with the MSI Card, only reason I ask is because the MSI card is €381 on Dabs.ie at the moment.

I would go with EVGA their customer service is awesome! I had to RMA a gpu through them due to one having the wrong Device ID for sli to work. Called them up and that same day RMA was approved and the whole process was so easy.

I was about to say because everyone else is recommending EVGA when they are nvidia only.

MSI is a pretty solid brand, I think them more then ASUS

 

I've heard people give bad reviews about MSI

from where? from people or reviewers?

EVGA doesnt make AMD cards and Asus has been quite lackluster with their GPU's lately.

MSI is doing well, on the other hand.

I like XFX personally for their fan design, but MSI, Gigabyte, ASUS, and EVGA also make good cards.

Well since it is an AMD card he is looking at, one of the best, if not the best from AMD is Sapphire.

Crap I forgot about that! Deff go for a sapphire card. As for the XFX I had a r9 295x2 from them. It was pretty good but noise as anything.

There are many GTX 780 or GTX 780 Ti on sale on eBay. New ones get posted everyday for about $250 for the 780 and $330 for the 780 Ti. If anything goes wrong Paypal will refund your money.

if your playing on 1080p you'd have no use for an 8gb card, maybe in heavily modded bethesda games. For 1080p i'd go for a 970 if it's around the same price, but for 1440p or 4k the 390 maybe better on the long run.

 

Lmao the 390 crushes the 970. And why shouldn't you want 8GB of vram? 8GB of vram will be the standard next year with HBM V2

 

The top cards will even have 16GB or even 32GB.

the 390 is slightly better out of the box then the 970, but the 970 if you oc it is still better in 1080p, though as I said the 390 is better in higher resolutions and in multigpu setups, but for 1080p I'd still go for the 970, especially in it's a bit cheaper or a 290x if it has a good price.

What the fuck mate, did you even watched the video? The R9 390 even beats the 970 at 1080P, and it has 8GB of vram.

 

3.5GB is already shit unless you want to upgrade next year when cards will have minimum of 8GB and even 16GB/32GB of HBM V2.

 

Not even my 6GB on my 980TI will be enough, but that's not a problem since I upgrade every year from now on.

I have watched the video, you might not have paid enough attention, in the video it was 2:3 for 970 and 390 respectively in 1080p, and the 970 has higher oc headroom, much lower tdp. And there are other reviews out there that show that it's more like trading blows in 1080p with only the factory overclocks.

For 1080p an oc'd 970 is still better.

For 1440p/4k/multigpu the 390 is better. (or bethesda games in 1080p with 4k textures, improved meshes and enb's and stuff)

Dude the 3.5GB of vram on the 970 is not enough as we speak.

 

What's the point in getting a 350$ card if can't run games on Ultra like GTA V, Shadow of Mordor, Dead Rising 3 and many more which require more then 4GB of vram?
