So this is just an idea that has popped into my head that instead of building my full pc, listed here http://pcpartpicker.com/p/s8Pxqs , I get the 8 core intel monster and slack off on everything else, and as i get more money add onto the system... would that be worth it?

For what, gaming? No. Content creation maybe. Also, instead of sli 970s go with 980ti.

Theres so many wrongs in this build

A. You dont need that much power unless youre rendering a 3d movie in a tight deadline

B. No its not worth it

Go spend it on an i5 and a 970 if youre gaming and a i7 and a Quadro/980 if youre gonna be professional

Otherwise youre just burning money

Maybe get one of the 970's and a placeholder cpu, but you will always be better off waiting, until you can afford the whole thing, and better parts may come out for a lower price down the road...

Absolutely not.

Assuming you are gaming, you should take that 5820k down to a 4690k, or ATLEAST a 4790k. Replace the Dominator Platinums with something more down to Earth, get a 980ti instead of SLI 970s, and get rid of some of those fans >_>

I guess i should be more specific in my posts -_- there will be content creation and gaming. The platinums are just for the bling because i can afford it in my budget and the sli won't be bought at the same time. so i won't have the 600 to get the ti

Just because you can afford it in your budget DOESNT MEAN YOU SHOULD. Well unless youre a Successful Gold Miner that gets paid in bricks everyday

Get a normal i7 4790K and a 980Ti

The 4790k is only 50 cheaper than the 5820k and I can use the additional cores for rendering, editing etc.

It wouldnt be an ideal build, If you insist, i cant stop you.

Im just saying, what youre building is too overkill. If you have the budget and insists then go ahead, save some money for emergency, life funds, rent, and bills.

If you create unusually large content and need to render it at a tight deadline, why not. But were talking realistically here, taking your economy into account.

Sure its powerfull but DO YOU NEED IT? Theres a fine line between NEED and WANT.

Ahhh ok I understand. Yeah the build is overkill but the computer need to last quite some time and rent and bills are at a minimum (still not yet out of high school) and savings and everything else is already taken care of. I got everything setup to where all the money I put into this build is "extra" money. I could have a huge budget, I would just need to wait a REALLY long time.

Theres no need to waste money on bigger on numbers. There's still room to buy a fancy cooler, motherboard and case if you really need it.

Would that xeon processor do good with video creation/gaming/streaming?

Content creation - yes

Gaming - slightly less so, especially in the long term. You might as well go for the 4790k in that case.

Nottt really. It is very similar to a 4790 non K, so it will still perform great in gaming.

Yes. That is basically what it is designed for.

Overclocking will make it last longer.

That being said, PCPartPicker lists the 4790 as being $50 cheaper, and the 4790k as about equal price (you do need a Z97 Mobo in that case though, so it'll be slightly more expensive.) There's very little reason to go for that Xeon you listed.
