Bottleneck Concerns

Go to solution Solved by SkilledRebuilds,

I will be running a 4440 and a 970, as if I return the current motherboard and processor I can immediately purchase the new CPU and motherboard.

Sweet as fuck. You'll be SOOO happy.

Like... seriously happy, if you had bought the FX,.. it's enough to WEEP over once you see how badly your GPU is being used (under half at times) just by having a shit CPU in there.

The 4350 will majorly bottleneck the 970 - yes, overclocking will help and the motherboard does matter. If the VRM is improper, you could fry it by trying to overclock it or end up with unstable voltage.

I'm building a system

GTX 970 oc STRIX

AMD Fx 4350

motherboard (who cares)

SATA devices(who cares)

case(who cares)

Will the 4350 bottleneck the 970?

MIght an overclock help?

It will bottleneck hard. An OC will help but it will still bottleneck. Get a 8320 or a 280x.

Overclocking won't even help that CPU in modern gaming, your GPU usage/power will plummet in MANY titles, still playable, but barely, not smooth,.., unplayable in others.

Read this, it's long, but it goes into details WHY your WASTING A LOT OF CASH on that unbalanced build, and why AMD in general are bad for Gaming rigs at ANY price point.

Only when used for a render farm or 100% usage type scenario, are the FX processors worth it, and this is not indicative of Gaming load.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

The motherboard is a 970 gaming motherboard so i'm not concerned about overclocking.

Can I see the board? It's too generic still.

Are there any solid AMD quad cores at this price range? (140-180$) AM3+

There are ZERO AMD PROCESSORS AT ALL that will not bottleneck a GTX 970 in MANY Gaming situations.

They really are that old, and with more powerful GPU's coming every year, the disparity will only grow.

Get what works... Ditch FX completely!

The i5 4440 if your not overclocking or on a budget to put more towards your GPU.

If money isn't so tight, 4690K, Neither will bottleneck any single gpu from todays current market.

i7 is pointless for Gaming rigs unless your actually making money from your video works, so don't think you need one in the future, you prob wont.

Thanks I will take this into account.

For a Gaming Primary type Rig, the i5 4440 should be picked over your 4690K, and put the difference in cash towards your GPU.
