Suggest a CPU/Mobo?

Hello everyone,

I am looking for a new CPU and motherboard. This is my current build: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Christiantw/saved/pkKkcf
I am upgrading my CPU and motherboard because I am getting in to more heavy video rendering. I am currently taking classes for advanced rendering and live 2 hours from my school, so I am upgrading to avoid having to drive that 4 hours per day just to do my homework. I am thinking either a Xeon or a 5000 series i7. Any suggestions?

I was also looking at the Asus x99-A or the MSI Gaming 7 motherboard. Does anyone have any experience with either of these? If so, what is your experience?

Edit: My budget is ~$2100 for CPU, Motherboard, RAM.

You won't notice the difference between them. Go with whichever's cheaper. If they're a similar price, go with whichever you think looks nicer.

Why 4790k over anything from the 5000 series? The 5820k has 2 more cores, which would be better for video rendering and is only slightly cheaper.

 

You won't notice the difference between them. Go with whichever's cheaper. If they're a similar price, go with whichever you think looks nicer.

If your main tasks are editing get a high core count xeon, they can turbo very well when using fewer cores in gaming.

 

16 cores 32 threads, turbo to 3.2ghz

How serious are you about editing? i.e. hobby or making money.mIf it's just a hobby then get the 5820k. If you are making money then consider the 5960X. (OC both to 4-4.4Ghz) If you need a setup with ECC ram then get the Xeon.

 

As for mobo I would get a cheap 300 dollar board. However if you need a very reliable board then get a more expensive $500+ workstation (WS) mobo. For brand I would go with ASRock. 

 

Lastly RAM. I would get a cheap 2400 or 2667 kit with 32GB of ram. Unless you need Xeon/ECC in which case get the 2100 server stuff. 

 

Also do you live near a microcenter? they got good combo deals on CPUs/Mobos.
