  1. I'm not really sure. Problem is, I don't really know a whole lot about headphones. I've been trying to get in to high quality audio, but I'm never quite sure what to buy. It's an issue because I don't really know of any places that sell audio equipment over here besides Best Buy and their equipment is pretty garbage. Well that is good to hear! I have looked at a lot of Schiit products, but I am not really sure which ones would be good. What's your opinion, if any, of the Vali 2 and the Modi 2? Thanks for this information. I will definitely have to look more in to the DT1770's then. Most of the reviews I've read were on Head-Fi, but it's looking like they may not be the best source for information. Yeah, that's why I made this thread. I read good things about the DT1770 Pro, but I don't really want to throw $1000 at equipment and not have a second opinion And you are correct. I don't really have any idea. The only other pairs of headphones I have had were the AKG Q701's and the ATH m50x's. I didn't mind either of them, but the Q701's were lacking in bass, and the m50x's just didn't sound very satisfying. Thanks for the information though, I'm thinking I may have to find a place to test headphones to see what I actually like. Do you have any opinions on amp/dac's? Just for reference, my current setup is: Closed: m50x Open: q701 Soundblaster ZXR soundcard (only really use it for the equalizer at this point though...) Objective2+ODAC Sorry for the late replies, I was out of town over the weekend.
  2. I would most likely be buying from Amazon and I would say I prefer a balanced sound signature. Closed back isn't really a requirement, I have just read really good things about the DT1770's and from what I understand, they have decent bass, but it isn't overwhelming. Plus they look really nice. I haven't ever actually tried them or anything though, so I am actually not really set on that. Thanks for the reply by the way. I am pretty new to higher quality audio so I am not really sure what I am supposed to be looking for.
  3. I have a budget of at most ~$1000 (doesn't necessarily need to be that high... that's just the absolute most I am willing to spend... kinda new to high quality audio equipment so idk the prices). Less is definitely welcome. My goal is to get the best sound for my dollar. I was considering the Beyerdynamic DT1770 with maybe a good amp + dac but I am definitely open to new recommendations. Primary purpose will be listening to music and I would prefer something that does an excellent job recreating real life sound. Thanks!
  4. Hello, so I purchased a Soundblaster ZxR back in January and just found out that it doesn't work in Linux. I need Linux for most of the programming work I do and music is definitely necessary for programming. Any advice on purchasing a comparable or better sound card that is compatible? Thanks!
  5. Why 4790k over anything from the 5000 series? The 5820k has 2 more cores, which would be better for video rendering and is only slightly cheaper. Ahh okay, the only difference is the Asus x99-A is free when I get the 5960X are Frys. Thanks! Mainly editing, but also gaming.
  6. Hello everyone, I am looking for a new CPU and motherboard. This is my current build: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Christiantw/saved/pkKkcf I am upgrading my CPU and motherboard because I am getting in to more heavy video rendering. I am currently taking classes for advanced rendering and live 2 hours from my school, so I am upgrading to avoid having to drive that 4 hours per day just to do my homework. I am thinking either a Xeon or a 5000 series i7. Any suggestions? I was also looking at the Asus x99-A or the MSI Gaming 7 motherboard. Does anyone have any experience with either of these? If so, what is your experience? Edit: My budget is ~$2100 for CPU, Motherboard, RAM. Thanks, Christian
  7. The interesting thing is the sound quality is significantly better on the sound card. It feels like there is a bigger range and better bass. There is only one issue and idk if it has to do with the sound card because I am new to anything audio really, but there seems to be a bit of white noise in the background at all times when using the soundcard but not on the external.
  8. Yeah I would probably keep it for my 5.1 setup. Would the combo provide higher quality sound or just added convenience to using the E18+Sound card? Edit: I ended up going for an O2 and I am going to return the E18.
  9. Oh that's a nice looking combo. So would I use aux to connect audio in? Or is it fully USB? SSL, I have an E18 but don't know if it's enough to power this.
  10. So would you recommend I buy an external amp as well? And if so, which one?
  11. Yeah, prior to this, I have always used a standard "gaming" headset. This is what I am getting coming from a Razer Blackshark, so I am hoping to be blown away when I hear the difference. Is there another standalone mic you'd suggest?
  12. So I just bought some stuff on Amazon and would like to know your opinion on my purchases. Headphones: AKG Q701 Microphone: Blue Yeti Sound Card: Sound Blaster ZXR My fear is mainly with the sound card not being able to support the headphones. My budget was initially $1000 but I accidentally bought a DAC/AMP (E18) instead of just leaving it in my cart so it ended up being around 800 after that. This was a total of around 530 so I still have a bit left over.
