Hi

I kept getting lag spikes while playing games, i noticed sometimes pages take ages to load aswell.

I ran a ping and noticed (see attachment) that it keeps dropping out, the picture makes it seem less random than it actually is as sometimes it drops for a few pings, or ages apart.

Originally happened with my old computer, I have a new computer and experience the same problem

This is not always an issue as it doesn't always happen.

The only thing i can think of is that i use a wireless extender.

any ideas?

If you need any more info let me know!

Thanks in advnace!

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

  • 4 weeks later...

Ping your router, open another cmd window and ping google. See if it spikes on both or not.

Hi!

the conenction has been pretty good over the last month, but today i've gotten the same issue again.

I have pinged 8.8.8.8 and my router. and the lag spikes seem to be happening both ends, when 8.8.8.8 times out i have a massive jump in response to the router, at one point getting to 1000 ms.

Does this mean there is a problem with the wireless extender that im using? it is pretty old now?

Its googles server, someone else on this thread told me its the best thing for testing as it gives you the fastest response you can

okay, just type in any stable web-adress, www.google.com, www,amazon.com or something like that is fine. But if you ping your router at the same time (which should have a latency of <1ms or at least <5ms when using wifi) and it shows spikes on both, then it's definitely not your provider that's causing the issue, it's somewhere in your home network.

Ah,

Ok yeah so its gotta be something on my home network, from what i have tested with other computers / laptops around my house, im the only one getting this issue.

Im starting to think it's gotta be soemthing with the extender. I will have to look into getting a new one :)

Thanks a lot for your help!
