Is r9 380 4GB enough for 1080p and 1440p gaming?

joseph1julius

I am really confused if I shud get the r9 380 or go with the Gtx 970. I don't need a overkill GPU just that r9 380 saves me some money. My CPU is 4690k.

Wud appreciate all the help :)

970 is way better. But get a R9 280X instead of the 380 its a bit faster and cheaper.

So what are prices ?

the R9 380 is in a completely different price bracket than the 970, the 380 costs about 1/3 less.

R9 390 = GTX 970

R9 380 = GTX 960 in terms of pricing in general

380 would be good for 1080p

you would need 290/290X or GTX 970 for 1440p

If the price difference is too stark, get a 380 and try to overclock it HARD. maybe, just maybe you can wringe out that extra performance, but do not think for a moment that a 380 will give you 60 FPS at 1440p. You should be looking at 30-45FPS at best. Which in my mind is playable, just not desirable.

And a R9 390 ?

the 380 is 1/4 less pricey than a 970, so you can't really compare them.

If you only have 17,000 then go for the 380, if you have more to spend, look for a R9 390 or 970

1080p Maxed

1440p Maxed or with reduced details.

The 280/380 will perform fine.

Maybe not to the degree of 60fps, but it ain't no slideshow. Always above playable.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

I am doing it from scratch so I am going for

CPU 4690k

180GB Intel 535 SSD

Corsair Vengeance 8gb

Corsair CX 500

Corsair h80i water cooler

I got a 1 TB hDD thats all I need and a good corsair case

Just need a mobo and GPU

I got total 35,000 left need to get those two in that so if I get 970 can't get maximums ranger cuz I will need more money. But wud it be worth it getting the ranger and 380 or going for 970 and pro gamer both r good asus mobos and want to try mild CPU overclocking like to 4.0 ghz maybe

The B85 won't OC.

It's your choice, the R9 380 or 970.

But as I said, is the R9 290 / R9 290x / R9 390 available ?

The GTX 970 is closier to the R9 390 than the 380, so out of those two I would get the 970 for sure, especially with those prices.

If you are looking for gaming on 1440p you need to forget 380 as an option. I have Sapphire 390 and oveclocked its barely enough to get decent FPS on demanding games and nvidia 970 is similar in performance to 390. With the prices you gave us i would choose 970, best deal for you.
