I want to switch out my G15 for something mechanical, but the question is what type of key I should get.

I want something that's easy to type on, I do not play games as much as before, and now I type a lot more.

I've tried MX reds and personally I do not like them.

I know going for MX Browns or Blue's are good for typing, any input?

I decided buying a mechanical keyboard based on Linus videos...I've never tried mechanical keys before...so I just thought I do like my keys to be clicky and I want to feel the actuation point....what I'm trying to say is: I just thought what do I want to have and then I decided to buy a Razer Black Widow 2013 Edition (MX Blue)...never tested it and now I don't want to miss it it feels AWSOME!!! So I would say think about what do I want to have and then buy it online....and if you don't like it you can still send it back!

The CoolerMaster Quickfire TK cherry mx blue is a pretty good mechanical keyboard. It's pretty beast for the price. The backlight is amazing too.

I did read something about that' date=' also the blue's (from my experience) are much easier to find. Is this true?[/quote']

Not really. I think all of them (between Blue, Red, Brown, Black) are all pretty common. It all comes down to what kind of keyboard you want in terms of features,

most of them come out pretty basic and minimal.

Read this, pretty much covers it all. Reds imho tend to be the hardest to find, as there are very few people that use them, i myself use blacks, as they are a nice on a gaming, but it really comes down to personal preference, if you know someone with a mechanical keyboard go have a try of it, if not i am sure your local e-tailer would be more then happy to let you test out each switch.

I have 2 mechanical keyboards at the moment and these 2 keyboards are the only ones that I've tried yet, Razer Blackwidow with blue switches and a Ducky DK1087 that has green alps switches. I've been using my blackwidow lately because I can't live without a numpad and I love the sound they make every time I press on them, although the difference from blue switches and green alps switches are noticeable. Green alps are louder I think because the keys rattles every time you press on them, and they are much more stiff than the blue switches although they are both clicky in the same way.

How much are you willing to spend on the keyboard?

I just recently got the Logitech G710+ and it uses Cherry MX browns and although I like the clicky sound of blues I rly like the design of this keyboard. As well browns are not silent, they are far from it they still make a lot of noise, not as much as blues, but it is good when you want the click but don't rly want to have ppl stare at you for typing to loud.

General Summary of Switches

Common switches are the reds, blacks, blue and browns

Both blacks and reds are linear switches with no feel of when the actuation point is. Blues and browns are tactile switches where you can feel the actuation point of the key.

Black switches are red switches that are slightly heavier. Blue switches are slightly heaver than browns.

Blue switches make an audible clicking sound when you depress the key.

I'm a big fan of browns, blues are just a bit too loud for me.

Browns or Blues, it all comes down to whether or not you want the loud clicky sound or not. If yes, get the blues, if not, get the browns. :)
I personally started with Reds, didn't like them at all! (There's just NO feedback at all with them) - so I swapped the keyboard for the same model but with Brown switches, and they're awesome (Like Blues but not as loud so I can still use my keyboard when everyone else in the house is asleep!) :)

The main difference between browns and blue's are the sound, am I right? Cause in the middle of the night, I might see using the blue's a a problem :P And for the availability for browns, I can't seem to find any good-brand brown keyboards in Norway.

I've been looking into mechanical keyboards a lot recently and made myself a quick chart about the different types of switches.

Still haven't decided which ones to get.
