The parts i collected for free so far are

AMD Phenom ii x4 965 BE

Some LG Bluray Drive

some cheap ASUS mATX motherboard

thats it

suggestions for case ram ssd etc

its a complete media PC basing around that bluray drive.

well i guess it could be cheaper to just get a bluray player... but i dont know what to do with the CPU and bluray drive.

Don't get an SSD it's just a media PC.

SSD is a must on any system. Any system without an ssd is a terrible experience.

Get some HDD, download Debain / Ubuntu / XMBC or anything along the lines. Some 400W psu [below 400w are usually utter crappy] and 4gb of ram

perhaps 150$ investement.

Im putting an ssd in it no matter what, I already have a copy of windows vista buisness, 400w, but i think i might need a GPU to play 1080p video, i dont trust the integrated crap.

What do you plan on spending. And do we need to calculate a Blu-Ray playback software into the price? Also will you be needing a harddrive?

300? already got a software and i have a home server

budget?

300

that actually doesnt look too bad. since its all for bluray playback anyway. do you think ill need a gpu? cause i dont really trust the integrated crap to run 1080p smoothly

Case: zalman Z9 plus(non plus if you dont like LEDs)       £45

Ram: G skill ares 4gbx2                                                     £45

Corsair cx430                                                                    £35

Samsung 240gb ssd                                                          £125

If the case is too big then i recommend a coolermaster n200 which is £30 but it is still quite awesome.

Then get some small SSD, and yet, since you got Vista, download some nice Linux distro, compile VLC and add BluRay repository and you'll have a lot of fun.

Vista is slowing down everything.

Well, I'd try first about the integrated gpu. Im running a 3870 in my media PC, but only because I took it out of an old PC I found in the garage ^^ and I got a few TVs and a monitor hooked up to it ^^

If that won't work, get some AMD / ATI gpu for 50$ something passive cooled. [AMD works better on linux ^^]

This 'integrated crap' has no problem with 1080p bluray.

You are making a very expensive system for just 1080p bluray. BTW Haswell can run 4k 60fps no prob so bluray 1080p is not a problem. Here is what I would pick.

Keep in mind that the PSU is big enough for some upgrades. Feel free to change the parts arround.

Where's your source that says Haswell's integrated graphics can run 4k 60fps?

I don't remember but I think it was one of linus's Computex videos where they runned a 4k video off of integrated haswell graphics and the CPU load was ~0.

Oh sorry I didn't read again that you have all off those. Do you have a PSU? These are my new suggestions: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1lcxY

That hitachi drive is in my computer right now for 5 years and hasn't failed me, the PSU is 80 Plus, ram is just some cheapo kingston and the case just some cheapo nzxt. But im not sure if your CPU can handle 1080p without a graphics card.
