Computer won´t start with GPU

Go to solution Solved by Duskie,

Hello.

I just build my first computer and it won´t start with GPU installed.

My build is:

intel 4670k, with gelid tranquillo rev.3

Fortron Aurum 92+ 650w

EVGA GeForce GTX 970 SSC ACX 2.0+

2x 8GB HyperX 1600mhz

asus z87m-plus

Kingston SSDNow V300 480GB

Monitor is connected to on board HDMI connector at all times.

When I turn the computer on, fans start to spin but fans on graphic card stops after a while. There is no response on monitor.

When I take graphic card out, everything is fine. computer starts normally.

I tried resetting CMOS by removing mobo battery, putting everything out and reassembling computer.

Can you please help me ? What can cause this issue ?

Did you plug the display cable into the GPU?

Did you plug the display cable into the GPU?

I tried it the first time. Fans started to spin but there was no video signal on monitor.

Yeah, but the hdmi/vga cable.  The cable coming from your monitor, did you have it plugged directly into the graphics card, or the motherboard port?  Not trying to be a prick, but it is a very common mistake.

See this is what worries me.  It should not be connected to the motherboard when you have the graphics card installed.  It should be plugged directly into the card.

I tried it both ways with graphic card. HDMI connected to graphic card. It didn´t worked. Then I tried to plug it in motherboard (still with installed gpu) with same results.

Did you try installing the card into a different pci-e slot?  It should be installed into the one closest to the cpu, but there could be something wrong with the slot.  If that isn't it there is a good chance your card is DOA.
