Strange motherboard mounting

Go to solution Solved by iamdarkyoshi,

you can take a dremmel to the punched standoffs and screw in your own where they should go. Just tape a piece of paper to the back of your motherboard, poke holes in the paper where the standoffs should go, then put the paper in the case and mark the holes for drilling.

I was planning on building a PC in an old HP pavilion case that we had, but yesterday after removing the motherboard I noticed some possible problems. First off there aren't any standoffs, the motherboard was just screwed into the 6 raised parts of the case. There were also these 2 spots on the back that seem like they were there to support the motherboard off the case. Will this motherboard I was planning on getting be compatible, or should I also look for a new case.

You could always drill some new holes, let me blow the case up or something

Worried that the new motherboard will short out because it doesn't have the 2 pads on it and I haven't seen them anywhere else.

Well other motherboards survive without pads, I'm pretty sure those pads are there only for physical support

I have done this with an old Mac case before and it worked perfectly.
