So Im going to build my first pc this summer, and I have 2 options, get a 6300 and an r9 390, or an intel i5 4690k and an r9 380 4gb. Both of these would include a coolermaster hyper 212 evo. I was wondering what to go for, if you think that the gpus are a bad choice, what would you recommend to get at a $330 price point for the 6300, or a $230 price point for the i5, know that I could stretch the prices a little bit, especially for the i5.

Thanks so much to anyone who can help!

I would get a locked i5, get a cheaper motherboard, get a 390, call it a day. Will link to PCPartPicker, just a minute.

So since it's a locked CPU you can use the stock cooler and it will be fine.

CPU: Intel Core i5-4590 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($189.99 @ NCIX US)
Motherboard: MSI H81M-P33 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($41.98 @ Newegg)
Video Card: Gigabyte Radeon R9 390 8GB SOC Video Card  ($329.99 @ Amazon)
Total: $561.96

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

My issue with that is having a locked cpu, which id like to avoid, but Ill check it out, thanks!

Well you would just be stuck with stock clocks, nothing wrong with that.

A 4590 or 4460 will monster the AMD chip in games and allow you much better budget for the GPU.

Also, stock cooler is fine if your not overclocking.

I don'T PreSS caPs.. I juST Hit THe keYboARd so HarD iT CriTs :P

Yeah, I'd just like to have the option to overclock and improve my experience if I have the option

A locked i5 would perform plenty my friend. If it ever becomes not enough then, realistically, it's time for a new system @Faceman's advice here we come!

thanks, however, I did just realize that I can get a 4690k instead of a 4590, and I live next to a microcenter, which sells them for $200, and a 4690k is worth 10 bucks more than a 4590

You can overclock a non locked chip.. but not by the multipliers and results will be much less...

Check out llinus messing with his 18core xeon to see what I mean.

Oh wow... I wish they had Micro Centers in Portland...

I would get a 4690k now and get a GPU after saving up a fair bit.

I suggest getting a nice mobo and 4690k and then saving up to get a GPU later. You can run off of onboard graphics for the time being.

I dont know, I might, but it is tempting, but I wont make money for the time being, so I may just go with a bad mobo now, as then Id be up and playing games

Well, again, you won't gain any performance by going with a super expensive motherboard and a locked i5 CPU will perform fine in any and all games. You would have the money now to buy a 390 if you wanted to get a working PC immediately and sacrifice like 5% performance.

Best mobo for the price that overclockes, supports SLI and has amazing build quality.

CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($199.99 @ Micro Center)

Motherboard: Asus GRYPHON Z87 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($77.98 @ Newegg)

That works, though I still am sticking to "locked CPU, much cheaper mobo, stock cooler, save money and rekt house with a 390.

by sacraficing the cpu, gpu, or mobo? Also, if i get a good mobo, Id like to get z97, which is much more expensive, and the locked i5 wont be much cheaper than the $200 4690k that I can get from microcenter

If you get a locked CPU then you don't have to spend money on the cooler period, you save like 30+ on a board and you have more GPU moneys.
