So, as the title suggests, my subwoofers have been acting up recently and it's getting in my nerves. Sucks too cuz it's the only speakers I have.

This is what the subwoofers sound like:

Use headphones to better hear what it sounds like...

I opened the subs last night and it seems like the subwoofers we're vibrating? as if something is constantly playing at a low bass frequency kinda thing? I'm not sure how to describe it properly as I'm not really an audiophile or at least not too familiar with things in the like.

Could this mean a dying speaker set? Is there anything I can do about it?

it could be 'noise' impacting the quality of the sound. What type of set-up are you using for your sound output (with regards to on-board or expansion sound card, type of cable used). in saying that have you tried different output cable? have you checked your equaliser settings or played around with them?

It's plugged in to a laptop, but I get the same results plugged in either to my phone, tablet, or PC haven't tried a different output cable yet...and I'm sure it's not the equaliser causing this as I have tried unplugging everything both input/output cables.

That was without playing anything? Seems like although there shouldn't be a signal (not playing anything), there's a signal being sent to the set. Probably a short between the polarities. Speaker sets usually make that sound if you touch the 3.5mm connector with your wet/sweaty fingers (creating a short between signal and ground)

If it's unplugged (but on), does it still make that sound?

Try re-plugging/wiggle the plugs. Best case is bad contacts and/or cables. Worst case is something in the PCB inside fried.

turning up the volume seems to have gotten rid of the odd bass frequency...but there's something else it sounds like high pitched vibrations during bassy songs from heavy metal or dubstep...I'll post a video/audio of what it sounds like probably tom as I'm still busy xD
