akhilashokan1996

Hi,i am going to upgrade my gpu but i am pretty confused on which one to buy AMD or Nvidia, should i go for the R9 285/380 or should i go for the GTX 960 or maybe something better. I am planing to game and do some editing but mostly games like GTA V,witchers 3..etc,i currently have a 1440X900 monitor but will be upgrading to a 1080 or 1440 soon. And i have corsair VS650 PSU will that be a problem?

970 if you plan on going 1440p, no way a 960 or 380 will do 1440p.

Gpu: MSI 4G GTX 970 | Cpu: i5 4690k @4.6Ghz 1.23v | Cpu Cooler: Cryorig r1 ultimate | Ram: 1600mhz 2x8Gb corsair vengeance | Storage: sandisk ultra ii 128gb (os) 1TB WD Green | Psu: evga supernova g1 650watt | Case: fractal define s windowed |

I'd say, go with a GTX970 if you go with 1440p monitor, even op a 1080p monitor I'd recommend a GTX970.

Main gaming pc: Lian-Li Lancool II Mesh Performance - Ryzen 5 5600X - MSI GTX1080Ti Armor - AMD Wraith Spire RGB - ASUS TUF Gaming B550 Plus - Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO 2x8GB 3200MHz - 500GB M.2 (and a few other drives)

Gaming laptop: ASUS GL552VW: i7 6700HQ - GTX960M 2GB - 8GB DDR4 2166Mhz RAM - 1TB 7200RPM HDD

if going with 1440 you will need 970 or 390/x

But 970 costs much more where i live

well youre gonna have to go 1080p then, because the lowest gpu that can run 1440p is a 290 and that doesnt do 60fps on all games.

For the price of a 380 4GB, you can almost get a 4GB 290 MSI Lightning / SapphireTri X OC, which are way faster

this is true...if you can get a 290/290x for around the same price then its definitely the best out of the other choices

4GB Powercolor R9 380   229.99

http://www.newegg.co...ID=3938566&SID=

XFX Radeon R9 290 4GB   240~ish after all the promos and rebates  (This is pretty much stock 290)

http://www.newegg.co...ID=3938566&SID=

Sapphire R9 290 4GB 263 USD (crazy fast factory OC version)

http://www.newegg.co...ID=3938566&SID=

Gigabyte GTX 970  296 USD  (cheapest i could find)

http://www.amazon.co.../?tag=pcpapi-20

While the Tri-X OC is not the cheapest 290, it is overclocked so much it matches the 290X, thus it will trade blows/beat the 970. It also has enough OC headroom to blow past the 970 and STILL be quiet.

If money is not an issue, then get the best single card you can afford.  I am going to say Fury X or 980 Ti.  Yes it may be overkill at 1080P but you never know what games in the future may come out that are badly optimized.  You are now forced to use blunt GPU power to drive the game at 60 FPS and MSAA x2/x4/ or x8.  Want it to look good, use higher levels of MSAA but it will require a lot of GPU power.

Example:  980 Ti on a 2560x1080P monitor.  Single card 980 Ti running Batman Arkham Knights running an average of 70 FPS (after you edit the config file) with everything maxed out with the occasional dips in the 30 FPS due to bad coding.  I can't complain about the game because I am using brute GPU power to run the game comfortably.  Do the occasional dips become annoying?  Yes, but you learn to live with it.

I could have swore that somewhere it said money was not an issue but oh well.  Must have misread it .

I still stand by my comment.  Buy the best single GPU you can afford.

your psu is more than enough for any of these cards. even a 290x. any of those cards are good for 1080p.

so it all comes to how much money..a 4gb 960 is a good choice if anything
