Hello,

I tried to install my old Intel NIC and sadly ran into some issues I can't really solve. I'm not actually a noob in PC stuff, I even work in the IT, but this Problem drives me crazy... Tried a lot but can't imagine what's the Problem and thus don't know how to fix it, so I hope someone can help me out with this.

My PC specs:

Mainboard:

X87 XPOWER from MSI

PSU:

HX1000 from Corsair

1x 20+4-Pin ATX
2x 4+4-Pin ATX12V / EPS12V
6x 6+2-Pin PCIe

GPU:

GTX780 Ti

Audio:

Essence STX II

NIC:

Intel CT-Desktop Adapter

I had everything running for months (without the NIC) and I wanted to install my old Intel NIC. So I installed it into the x16 PCIe Slot and booted the PC. I tried to install the Drivers, but it told me that there was no Intel NIC found in my System. Then I shut down my PC again and swapped the Audio Card and the NIC from the x16 to x1 Slot. After I booted up the PC again, the NIC was working and I installed the Drivers, but I noticed my Audio Card was not working anymore.

To make things short:

I played around with the PCIe Slots. Swapped the GPU/Audio/NIC around and it never worked properly. The only way the NIC and Audio Card work together was when i put the GPU into the 1st PCIe Slot (which according to MSI is not recommended. They recommend Slot 2 for single GPU). But the Problem is, that the GPU will only run as x8. In the 2nd Slot the GPU runs at x16, but then only 1 additional Card will work -> Audio or NIC, but not both :(

I checked the Mainboard instructions and read that there is an additional 6 pin ATX power connector for the PCIe Slots. But my PSU does not have another ATX cable. I tried a PCI-E cable instead that had 6 Pins, but I am not sure if that works, at least it didn't fix the Problem -> so maybe no power Problem?

Does anyone know what's the Problem and knows how to fix it?

"Here is some advice that might have gotten lost somewhere along the way in your life.

#1. Treat others as you would like to be treated.

#2. It's best to keep your mouth shut; and appear to be stupid, rather than open it and remove all doubt.

#3. There is nothing "wrong" with being wrong. Learning from a mistake can be more valuable than not making one in the first place.
