BIOS message: CPU Fan error

Go to solution Solved by OneGun,

Most cpu fan warnings are set to warn you when fan is under 600rpms..You should be able to change the warning speed in bios to 500 then you would not get that warning..

I just received the computer today, assembled everything and I think it's all in the right place.

But everytime I start the computer, a BIOS message appears:

"CPU Fan error" and then forces me to press F1 to go to the BIOS.

If I exit the BIOS, it starts WIndows 8 normally. But next time I restart the computer, the same error appears.

When I enter the BIOS, I can see that the RPM indicator of the fan is in red (~580rpm).

For now, I've chosen an option to ignore this. But what should I do? Is the error related to a low RPM?

This is my CPU and cooler:

Intel Core i7 4770k 3.50ghz (3.9Ghz Turbo) 8MB cache
NOCTUA NH-U14S

Edit: I have not overclocked the CPU yet.

Use a program such as HW Monitor to view your RPMs.

Make sure the fan is connected to the fan header marked as the CPU fan header.

If this is alredy done, you can go into the bios and change the monitoring of the fan speed to not be as stickt

If it isn't due to a low rpm issue, then it could be your bios.

I had that same problem every time I started my system until Asus released a new bios update which fixed the problem.

So you may want to check that out as well.

I've had this problem before. When i built this small pc using a micro ATX motherboard it required 2 Fans, the standard one for cooling the CPU and a second for cooling the case or it would give me a  error similar to that of yours.

If you see another Fan header on your motherboard, and you have a case fan laying around plug it in your motherboard for testing to see if you still get that error.

Also make sure that you've plugged the cpu fan in the right fan header, it's usually the one closest to the CPU, and some are even labeled like below.
