Hitachi are owned by WD.. not sure if they are the same drives... Basically no... every manufacturer has had issues with certain models or batches.. HDD's fail all the time from every manufacturer.

Pick the one with the longest warranty - best price.

The WD RE3 is quite good.. fast and made for heavy use.. Based on the black. (though an old model)

I don'T PreSS caPs.. I juST Hit THe keYboARd so HarD iT CriTs :P

Is there any difference between choosing a Hitachi, WD, or Seagate drive? I have found a Hitachi drive for much cheaper than the other two brands. Does it matter much, if all will be done is storing the OS, and games.

Just make sure it is 7200 RPM, with a good GB:$ ratio and you should be good.

Hey KenCat,

HDDs in general are mechanical units and failures do happen due to a number of reasons regardless of the brand. It is really up to your preference and the availability. I would look for discussions and feedback from people with experience as well as reviews in order to get an idea for each brand. The more, the better ideal you'll have. :) Gaming depends on the storage's performance only for the loading times. FPS and graphics stay unaffected so this wouldn't matter much. OS and other applications do depend on the storage's performance so it really is up to what you are doing specifically on your setup.
