Hello all, about to put together my first build and had a few questions, first things first, the build itself is an i75820k on an asrock x99 extreme4 lag 2011v3 board with a kit of G.Skill Ripjaws Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory. I'm going to be installing Windows home premium 7 on a Samsung 850 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive and was wondering, do I need to set it to trim? Is trim even a thing on x99? More general questions to come.

Windows 7 Home Premium only supports 16GB of RAM maximum. TRIM is not a setting found in the BIOS - it is a command sent out either by a program or the OS.

Also, might wanna wait for Windows 10. As @Godlygamer23 said, Windows 7 Home Premium can only have a maximum of 16 GB of RAM. Either that, you switch to a different Windows version or wait for Windows 10.

What about Windows 8.1 standard edition?

It supports 128GB.

And would I need to do anything specific for my ssd?

Before installing Windows, go into the BIOS to make sure it's set to AHCI. Once Windows is installed, TRIM should automatically be enabled and it should apply the appropriate settings.
